Problem with my R3A "Advance Lever!"

You know the rewind knob? Don't actually rewind it and don't pull up shaft, but flip up the little part called the rewind crank (part 14 in the manual) that's normally down and see if it advances then. I've heard of Bessa's having the rewing fork (part 28 in the manual) not spin freely to allow the film to advance and flipping up this allows it to start moving again.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought the advance lever wouldn't advance and you were ready to take another picture. My apologies.

I remember when I first got my R2A, I didn't have any batteries, I thought I could at least make sure it mechanically worked until I got to the store to buy a battery. It wouldn't go, I needed a battery for it to work. If your battery isn't giving enough, this could be it.

But thanks to Stefan I understand that the shutter is cocked "So the advance lever mostly won't be the problem"

Do you remember the shutter times for 1/2000 (at the right) and 1 sec (at the left) blinking rapidly ? If so, that's an indication of low battery. Would be nice if that's it.

Our in-house technician suggested that perhaps the unit is in “rewind”, and queried whether the rollers are turning freely in both directions.

We have offered to either take the unit back for repair and meet the shipping costs of that return, or to assist with the repair costs overseas.

Gave it to a repair man "after calling other cities in Saudi" one guy gave me the repair man phone# and he is living now where I live 🙂

Glad it works again. Do you know what was the cause and what the repairman did ? We might learn something from it for the future (even if it was only not to try it ourselves 😛) ?

he told me but I didn't really care much as I was just Excited that it worked 🙂
Sorry, but he told me he use to repair Leicas too which is good because I bought a used Leica M8 as my first experience with a Rangefinder.

Dear Helen thanks for the help you offered and adorama's offer
however, here in Saudi repair men usually does not give reciept because it was unofficial job (beside his main job he fixes cameras as personal finance support) unless he works for athurized dealer of certain cameras such as nikon and canon...etc.
However, I paid for it and there is no need for further action (you already offered an exchange or replacement but I refused).
