Problem with Nikon 35ti, please assist!

Joe, I owe you one! Especially considering I spent close to 30x what you paid!
It took me a bit of doing but I figured it out, with your tip. I found info on adjusting the custom settings (including the annoying flash setting) at the mir.com site, so that was a big help also. Long fingernails, or a penpoint, are crucial to pushing in those buttons. I had to reset the focus dial and exposure comp. as well.
So now my only concern seems to me making sure the AF is accurate -- I've learned with many autofocus cameras to be very wary of what the distance readout indicates. Now we'll see how she does with actual film.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to solve your problem. I bet that's a load off considering you forked over big money to get yours. It's a good camera although a word of advice, it tends to over expose in matrix mode IMO. I could be wrong about that, and to be honest, I like my photos a bit darker.
Don't bother focusing on something close up without using a tape measure, otherwise I though the AF was ok.
I suppose mine works ok as well, I'm just disappointed that it was working and then the exposure comp dial crapped out. It could be worse though.

So I was wrong. I did not check the OPs observation before I trashed them. What I did late last night was try it with my current work email. I entered the first screen (email and such) and when it asked for more info I closed the window.
This morning I got an invite to a basic membership with ways I can extend my free low power / short term (30 day) membership several days at a time by posting, adding friends, etc.
More than enough time to ask questions, do some research and find answers.
I have to say they have found a great approach to valuing members who post, share and help the community in general but do not want to pay.
I was wrong.

Sorry to revive a 7-year-old thread, but I found it when I had a similar problem with the analog display on a 35ti I bought a few years ago (untested and pretty cheap in a yard sale kind of situation). In my case, it was the needle that indicates focus distance that would point off in crazy directions. I tried the "analog display reset" custom function that is supposed to allow you to manually re-position all the needles, but for some reason the misbehaving needle wouldn't move at all in that mode. Having said that, apart from this display issue the camera seemed to operate fine.
Today I said what the heck, got out some jewelers' screwdrivers, took the top plate off (requires removing the bottom plate and the leather covering) and got at the quartz display directly. I gently re-positioned the focus distance needle to a position on the normal scale of focus distances, put the camera back together again, and set the needles to the right positions using the "analog display reset" function.
And... it seems to be working properly now? I will update if the problem returns. Anyway this wasn't horribly difficult, if someone else has wayward 35ti display needles and has exhausted other options.
I like the 35ti overall; it's quite noisy, and the ergonomics are a bit off IMO, but the lens and meter are great and the viewfinder is good for one of these "premium point-and-shoots." I'd prefer a Ricoh GR1s/v but then you have LCD issues to worry about (plus as mentioned, I got this 35ti very cheap).
