How are you all pronouncing RETINA ? I thought I was being silly by saying reTINA as opposed to RETina . But at the local Wolf a clerk happily pulled out his personal 1a and we shared our enthusiasms ... but he also said reTina . What's right for us fans ?

potayto potahto.

RETina makes more sense as an optical reference.

reTINA makes more sense given it's german origin.

Choose whatever is natural for you, and don't worry about what others say. As far as I know there is no "correct" pronunciation as there are always regional/national preferences.

The name Retina comes from the layer of light-sensitive cells at the back of the eyeball, which trigger the optic nerve that sends the impulses to the brain to create a visual image. So I pronounce the camera name the same way. In English... I expect this word is pronounced differently in different languages, so perhaps best to pronounce it according to the language spoken.

The Tina reference made my day ;) But seriously, even in German it's RETina.

Proper pronunciation of Retina

Proper pronunciation of Retina

The proper pronunciation for "Retina" is the same pronunciation used in medicine.

The emphasis is on the first syllable - that is RAY-tee-na .

Re-TEE-na is a mispronuciation from a German population not schooled in medical terms.

The common German word for the retina in one's eye is Netzhaut.
