Proof John Lennon was only Human

Best you ask him, then, what manner of car Ascari raced to the title, in '52 and '53. With only four cylinders under the bonnet, clearly, it wasn't a Ferrari...or was it?

He's an old Italian man and set in his ways. I think he just hates working on Dinos. He's a very good mechanic and is often swamped with work. Rich people wanting their cars tuned in short time. When a Boxer or 250 GT is in the shop, he's happy.

He drives an old Alfa.

He does a lot of his work with a stethoscope or rubber pipe. He has great ears, and when he has a 12 Cyl tuned, it's wonderful to hear.
Regrettably, I really do think that technicians of his ilk are fading away, and that's a darned shame. To some extent you could probably say the same thing about good camera repair persons I suppose.
Cheers

Anddd pilots, photographers, musicians, filmmakers, shall we keep going? 🙂

It's kinda scary when things might not actually be as simple as "get off my lawn."

I think the newest car I've seen in his shop (a neighbor) was a Testarossa. So, he would be similar to a film camera repairman. He has some fancy electronic gear in his shop but the basic diagnostics are done with his eyes and ears. He has room for one, maybe two major rebuilds. The last car I saw in that spot was a Lancia. Most cars are in and out in a couple of days. I guess I should photograph him..

Please. A traditional workshop with choice Italian exotica must have some potential as a subject.

Brett, I think we would have a good time talking about "real cars" with my neighbor at about 4pm with a glass of Cihanti and a tour of the shop in excellent English with a taste of Italian mixed in. He's a sweet guy.

I wonder why John didn't choose a VW Beetle? Ah... that'd been too much, hey!

Regarding the Ferrari, matter of taste I suppose. I think that car of his is a beauty! Of course, I have zero knowledge of what else was around in those days (other than my '63 VW that is). But many of the Ferraris, Maseratis, Aston Martins, etc. that I've seen over the years have struck me as testosterone display devices pretty much. John's pick was rather subdued in that regard. 🙂
