that there are rumors that other players may get involved in the mFT system. dSLRs only account for 7% of the total volume of new camera sales. The mFT will probably impact mostly sales of higher end bridge cameras and lower end entry dSLRs.

I agree that it is looking like the mFT system will be optimal for lenses designed for the system, and that the use of legacy lenses with adapters is an added fun factor, but not a reason in itself to buy into the system.

That's it. I'm selling my G1. Just too many problems. First, it can take M lenses. That's a killer. Second, the Canon FD 7.5 is just too slow.

Third, the Nikkor 8mm is fast but just not wide enough.

I wouldn't use M glass on it. That's what my M's are for.
I want that little fast pancake lens.

I keep trying to wipe your signature off my screen. If you post a lot they start taking over!!!
 
I'm imagining the look of Joe's photograph at 20mm, f/1.7, but 45mm/5.6 looks damn good.

Yes, I can't wait for the pancake. Totally makes up for that 0.5mm Nikkor shortfall.

My bugs are well trained, they travel in figure 8s.
 
Panasonic's target with the G1 is those people shopping at Target or Best Buy, not a bunch of gearheads looking for another toy. They need to sell many hundreds of thousands of these cameras and lenses to consumers to justify the R&D. I can't decide if it will help them or hurt them with positioning the product that august companies like Novoflex are making all manner of adapters to fit ancient lenses to the camera.
 
So tempted to buy one of these. I use a Nikon D200 for my telephoto needs.
Wondering if this might replace, while also serving as a quasi backup for my M8.

That as may be, but the G1 is the best camera for manual focus out there. Ever.

Leica supremacists will find this impossible to swallow, but it is true. And I do own a Leica and have used some others. And a truckload of SLRs. And a TLR.

You can argue all you want about the 'electronicness' of it all, the G1 is the future.

Well, that settles it. Leica and CV, you are finished! Turn out the lights, lock the doors. Every pro will be carrying a G1 in a couple of months.

And I don't even own a G1 😛 Played with in the store and was extremely impressed though.

But although I understand the appeal of a Leica RF, the 'Leica Uber Alles' mentality of some here annoys and amuses me at the same time.

Dear all;

I have been waiting very diligently for my adapter from CameraQuest before I decide how the M lenses will perform on the G1.

The end of January.....

Will my 15/F4.5 be to slow as a 30 F4? Well, it's about a stop slower than the 35 CV 2.5 (some one who can do that math please correct me if I missed ) that I had the first time around in RF world. However, the ISO 800 and 1600 performance will most likely blow away what that other celluloid image sensor can give. So, until I actually get a chance to shoot, it's a little premature to write it off.

Will My 40mm 1.4 be too slow as a 80mm 1.4, I think not, perhaps I should post a comparison of the Nikon 85mm 1.4 just in case anyone on this forum is not familiar with that lens size wise.

I have been shooting long enough to know my style now, and in the great scheme of things, I tend to shoot long rather than wide. I use a 28mm on a 1.5 crop or an effective 42 2.0 as my street lens, so, the 20mm should be just right. That however is not my most used, my most favorite focal length is 55mm on the 1.5, or 80mm ..... so the CV 40mm 1.4 should hit MY sweet spot.

As to focusing speed, that will have to be seen, I know it's two button presses, but hey, most of the time for street shooting, it's hyperfocal any how, will that be any slower?? If I get good at the two button press, I have a feeling, there will be no effective difference in speed, and when V3 of the firmware comes out, I bet Panasonic realizes that that this function needs assigned to that silly film mode button, ( what a waste of a button, Just make it fully assignable!)

As for focusing accuracy, from what I have seen, this little G1 with the EVF allows me to get a much better chance of in focus pictures than the RF M6, or the D300 ( although I have not added a focusing screen yet ) The old D80 had the focusing screen, and it still was not as good.

Lets at least wait a month to write the G1 off.

Apparently the D SUMMILUX 25mm F1.4 ASPH works with adapter and autofocus, but not continous focus. Get it while you can.
