Surprise, surprise:
It looks like the outstanding Provia 400X is back in production.
That would be absolutely awesome!!
A friend of mine has just bought fresh stock in Japan with an expiry date of 02/2017!
And Maco had imported it from Asia, too. But in just a few hours their whole stock was sold out!

But I've heard they are trying to get new stock.

Probably now it is time that we as customers demonstrate our needs and wishes, and that we tell Fuji that this film is so urgently needed:
- get in contact with Fuji in your country, and ask for this film
- get in contact with your distributor, and ask for this film
- if you are on facebook, write on the Fuji facebook pages and ask for this film.
For those of you in Europe, you can send emails to the responsible Fuji managers of Fujifilm Europe:
Mr Althoff: Stephan_Althoff[at]fujifilm.eu
Mr Boll: Ralf_Boll[at]fujifilm.eu
Let's our voices as customers be heard loud and clear.
Let's demonstrate the demand!

135 and 120 was on the shelf last time I was in Yodobashi. I about had a fit when I saw the price of DELTA 400 though. Haven't been back since (will only be a matter of time though...).

I haven't seen anything suggesting it is back in production, but it is still on the shelves in Japan, and still fairly widely available in Hong Kong (also in both 135 and 120). The shop I buy from in HK (top of Stanley Street for those here and interested) tells me the Fuji dealer no longer stocks it, but they are able to source it from Japanese trading companies. Cheers.

Well, given that all the installation in their factory is kept intact (as they still produce other films and E6), they could easily fired up a batch of 400X.

Wasn't it discontinued back in 2014? Latest batches were '16. Either they froze a master roll (more Kodak style) or they thought that a batch could be worthwile.

There was that run of 220 pro400 only for Japan talked about by a fellow forumer recently. Occasional production of less popular products is nice.

"Reports of my deaths have been greatly exaggerated!" is the thought that comes to mind every time I read about Provia 400X having been discontinued :p

Fujifilm has never issued a Japanese language announcement to say it was discontinued, and it has never disappeared from the shelves here. It is also still listed on the Fujifilm Japan website here and the Fujifilm global website here. Good to see that some is now also becoming available overseas too.

When i visited japan in January i shot a boatload of it because i can't get it in Australia. E6 developing was also so cheap at Bic Camera. It would be great if it becomes widely available again

Jon, thanks for the additional information / confirmation!
In Europe and the US there have been discontuniation statements.
So it's again this awful Fuji public relations behaviour:
When the import of a Fuji product to a certain market is stopped, they don't make a precise statement talking of import, but they say production ist stopped.
What a nonsense!

Fuji is a phenomenon:
They are very often producing by far the best films on the market (e.g. Astia 100F, Sensia 100, Provia 100F, Provia 400X, Velvia 50 and 100, Reala, Pro 160 NS, Pro 400H, the peel apart and Instax films).
But their distribution, PR and marketing policy is a real catastrophe. Concerning normal film.
Because with Instax they are on the other hand doing an excellent job in marketing.
As they are doing it very successfully with Instax, why they don't do it with normal film?

Nevertheless, or more precise: Especially because of that we customers outside of Japan have to build up pressure on Fuji that they improve their distribution policy and start offering Provia 400X (and further films and formats) again worldwide.
Or at least in major markets like North America and Europe.

Not to forget Neopan (Presto) 400 (only 35mm now) and especially the total discontinued Neopan 1600

They still have it in Japan? Ok, got place in the fridge :D I really love that film, makes handheld use possible in normal light.

bought 15 rolls of 35mm Provia 400X 2 weeks ago from Japan with expiration date set to 2016, about $50 per pack :(

Indeed, excellent news!
Provia 400X is outstanding stuff: The best ISO 400/27° color reversal film ever. And Fuji's latest complete new designed photo film, introduced just some years ago, in 2007.

Besides the www.macodirect.de online shop, you can also order directly in Japan at www.japanexposures.com for international shipment:

That's not a very bad price at all... 10$ a roll is probably less than what you'd pay in the US. Of course it's much more expensive than most film, but still...

It's back in stock at Maco. 35 & 120.

A couple of days after my order was dispatched, of course...

Be quick!

Sorry Jan, I loved Sensia 400 much more

All Japanese shops have had it available the whole time it was "out of production". They never stopped. Yodobashi in Shinjuku also usually puts up signs when they get wind of supplies running low, which is what they did recently for a few other FujiFilm products that went out of stock. As such, I'd just assume that there's still stock available.

On that note, I have a Classified up where I have 5-packs for sale (shipped from the good ole' US of A). They have Q4 2015 expiry dates, but they've been frozen since I bought 'em.

Thanks for the update. Excellent news!!
Very fresh film with a best before date of 02/2017!
Looks like the film is indeed still in production.

Come on Fuji, start an official export again!
