This whole thread is a provocation designed to start some stupid US-bashing exercise.

Gimme a break. I'm more liberal than most and a tried and true Democrat but I resent as much as any right-wing Republican people posting unscientific "bashing" exercises that seem intended to just drag out the Euro looney left diatribes!

Enough! Basta! Fini!

George - I don't think the original poster intended a fight. Look up- SDK has indicated he isn't "he who will not be mentioned"

SDK is a Bostonian.

Cool down.

Are you sure it was your political beliefs that got you deported, and not, say, just being a dink?
Just a hunch.....

Who's your daddy?

Sorry, I got a huge laugh out of this one.

Maybe we can this thread back onto photography. I think SDK has made an honest (and no, not scientific) effort.

This is not the first, nor second, nor third etc. thread we've had here on this.

There are hard line left wing Euro politicos who have used these kinds of threads to go into an anti-US direction.

Much as I don't agree with the guy, on this look at BM's comments to wit: "here we go again".

Quite frankly, I work in the NY office of a prominent German bank and we have folks come and work on short and long-term assignments all of the time. None of them have ever indicated that they have had any issue with coming to the US. Never a hassle, never an challenge etc.

If the Euros here who engage in this anti-US crap have a problem with coming here - fine. But I don't need to hear about it.

If you don't want to visit - stay home! BTW: Who the heck wants a guest who is an obnoxious bore?

As I said - enough! basta! fini!

We've heard it all before - Socke went to Cuba so thinks he cannot come here. Some old-style Labourite in Britain signed a petition and says he's on "the list".

B.S. being "on the list" is a badge of honor for these folks! Why feed their egos?

I thought we were going to declare politics "off limits"!

This post/poll isn't about RF photography - it's a political diatribe!

as far as i can tell, the poll has nothing to do with politics.
it seems a simple question.

but then, i am a simple man.

One could infer that it is political. If you really want to seesomething a certain way you can easily fool yourself. Which is whathappened here, IMHO.

But then again I can't possibly know as much as George. It seems.

It wasn't the poll that attracted my attention, Joe. It was this:

"Oh well there goes the scientific accuracy I was counting on! Seriously, non-US participation does not matter that much. I think RFF and Photo.Net are mostly infotainment anyway."

I read that and figured ok, well flame on. And then hard on the heels of that was this fella wants to casually throw in how the USA tossed him out for 'being a liberal' and how does that make us feel about the US now?

I'm adding two plus two and it is coming up fish.

Could be wrong - been wrong before. But it seemed like a pair of interestingly-timed fishing expeditions, each designed to get us to freak out. No one did, so no fun for the trolls.

That was my take. Professor Puff-n-Stuff seems to be hanging around to present his bona fides, so maybe he ain't a troll, but he sure walks like one.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

It is only political if you make it so. Just answer a simple question and forget about it.

i'm just saying the original poll seemed non political.

the 'liberal' who was turfed from america was another poster.

i think the possibility of the trolls has us all on edge.
too bad cause that's what they want.

have you seen frank's webpage?

OMG - I'm agreeing with BM here!

So tired of seeing this kind of stuff! I was an OT anti-war protester years ago. I have no use for these clowns down in DC.

But, I personally saw police and firemen race into the malestrom of the WTC attack and know many of them died trying to save folks like me.

So I'm sorry, Joe, these kinds of posts ARE political and they are B.S.!

No one is forced to live in the U.S. (you can stay or leave, as you wish) and no one HAS to come here. We're not some giant dictatorship.

So enough!

again, i say the poll was not political.

this thread is being made into it by others.

but i've had enough, carry on all.

Guys, my day job is science (Biology), and I was joking about the unscientific nature of the poll because it can't be scientific (small sample size, self-selecting participants, etc.). Though I think it is a bit rude to call it "bs". I certainly intend no trolling. I'm not anti-American, but this country does have its problems. Nobody has to read this, or give an answer. If you dislike political argument, nobody is forcing you to continue.

Yes, this country has it's problems.

What country doesn't?

The fact is, that this country (i.e. the US) is a major power and garners attention from folks who wouldn't give a rat's behind about police behavior in places like Leichtenstein!

Why single out the police?

This whole darned thing started because a member visiting NYC last week thought he was 'dissed by a Park Ranger in Central Park!

What a bunch of disgusting crap has arisen from this (and yes, I've added my share). I don't think our "Parkies" even have "law enforcement" status!

Our CP "parkies" are sweet people who like to fantasize that CP is really "natural". They got a big kick this week because, of all things, a coyote found its way into NYC and CP. Was big time "fun story" for the media etc.

How did these nice folks get turned into your poll about police harrassment of photographers?

Yo! Kids! I like both of you. And you are both getting stupid. Chill.

I do not understand why the two of you have to freaking be twin sons of different mothers with opposing political views. F*ing Chill!!!!!

I am pretty da*ned explicit in my political views in most places (though usually not here). For example, I am a member of the Democratic Socialists of America - Mike Harrington's old group. We're tiny and we always will be. We're seriously fringe and we will always make modern RF's look popular...

That's cool. You two consistantly being stupid to each other isn't. I'm tired of it.

And I want to say this again - I _like_ both of you. RFF would be lessened if either of you went away. But, please, can the two of you find a more constructive way to have your arguments?

Thank you.

William

William,

Based on the dialectic imperative - you are only temporarily in the "minority". ;)

But that doesn't explain your "lottery" position.

Since winning the lottery would mean having profited at the folly of others - would it not be incumbent upon you to restore your winnings to the common wealth? Hence, no "Linhof Master Technika Classic" for you - although perhaps for the community?

More to the point - Joe Palooka cop is easy to ridicule - and it's quite clear that they are at present woefully unprepared and untrained to deal with life in a post-9/11 world.

But I live in NYC and find that the cops are quite saavy about things. And I have never been "stopped", "queried", "detained" etc. for taking a photograph.

A member with a warped "libertarian" attitude posted a thread a week ago about an supposed "incident" with a park ranger in NYC. He then followed up with a post about some photog guy being harrassed in suburban NY by some court officers who were subsequently reprimanded!

So, you, a good Democratic Socialist, are defending a Libertarian?

Guess the ideological spectrum really IS a circle!

Based on this poll we are doing a whole lot of talking about something few have experienced.

Im sure everyone here values freedom of speech, as such
why not let people discuss what they like, and if you don't
personally like it, don't read or participate in the thread.

I don't often post here, so please excuse the newbe butting in,
just my 2 cents.

Andy
