I already exposed a 35mm roll of Tri-X at ISO 3200. Now, I'm not entirely sure what to do next.
I generally avoid push processing, but when I do, I limit it to 2 stops and use Xtol 1+3. Tri-X @ ISO 1600 with Xtol works great for me.
I have Rodinal and D76 at hand. I'm thinking of picking up another developer, like TMAX or DDX.
I generally use Xtol 1+3 for push processing, but I was thinking of going with a different route because I already have D76, and I feel that having both D76 and Xtol developers is a redundant. This is unless Xtol is the undisputed king in push processing, and nothing comes close.
Any thoughts? I'm particularly interested in experience with Tri-X with TMAX/DDX because I've never used one of those developers.

I did Rodinal 1:100 semi-stand for tri-x at 3200. I think it was two hours with agitation at the hour mark... it worked OK, Not as grainy as I'd thought it would be.
My main problem was that I couldn't see my F2's meter in the kind of light that required ISO 3200

You might want to look at http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.php?doc=pushproc for some suggestions of times and developers. I have used D-76. Others would recommend Rodinol, or Acufine or HC 110. Regardless of who say what, you will want to experiment to see what developer, time, and agitation give you the look you want.

DDX. It won't be great, but it'll be vastly better than Rodinal. True ISO of Tri-X in DD-X is maybe 650; in Rodinal, maybe 320 at best. So it's one stop less push.

Rodinal only to 800
I have gotten nice results with Rodinal 120 pushed to 800 1:50 18 mins. I would not recommend pushing it further or for 35mm film pushed.
Microphen seems to be recommended here and elsewhere in threads and may be worth exploring.
Here is one result if you scroll down.

DDX is my go-to developer and works reasonably well for push processing. If you try it and don't like it for the push, it's still very nice for box speed or pull processing for anything else you might shoot.

Try the Tmax dev mixed at 1:4.
Contrast will be high as it would with anything with such a push.
Tmax seems to keep grain from getting out of hand.
It's easy to mix as a liquid as well.
Cheers!

I've had beautiful results with Tri-X at 1600 and Xtol stock solution (to bring down the grain, even though it will probably be more compensating at higher dilutions)... Not sure if this keeps up to 3200, though.

I love how these threads always end up with everyone recommending a different developer, resulting in (in my eyes) even more confusion...

yup, TMAX/DDX/Ultrafin Plus works very well.

That is what I would use if I were doing it. Either DD-X or Microphen.

Buy Diafine (to make 2 liters, so 2 1 liter boxes - you will need to replenish over time).
Develop 3+3 minutes, some agitation every 30 seconds, water rinse, develop second time 3+3 minutes, fix, wash, hung dry.

I've wondered this, but this actually works? Tri-X in Diafine should be rated at 1250 (1-2/3 stop over box speed). Wouldn't that mean that doing your method would result in equivalent developing for 4000 ISO? (3-1/3 stop). Just wondering.

Apparently it does,
http://emirco.net/photo/projects/Tri-X_Test_3200_6400_2011/Tri-X-6-Developers-High-ISO-Test.pdf
just remember to rinse a few times after the first 3+3 run, because a tiny amount of solution B in solution A can inactivate it.

In general, the most tips I've seen regarding pushing, is XTol. Rodinal stand, maybe yes, but Rodinal really doesn't do much concerning speed to begin with anyway so....
If I were to push Tri-X, I would definately go the XTol route, haven't had very good results with Rodinal or HC-110 when pushing a 400 film to 1600, semi-stand also created uneven development the last time I tried.

I decided to go with Xtol. I bought a batch last night but I haven't mixed it yet. Xtol has served me well for push processing, so there is no need to change. Other combinations might work slightly better or worse (with speed/grain/tonality ofcourse), but I'm not expecting miracle work.
I will probably go with 1+3 dilution for 20 minutes as per massive development chart, and keep you guys posted.

+1 -- good advice. I think that or TMax developer are your best bets. Your choice of developer will make the difference...as much as I love Rodinal (and as much of a standard as D76 is) they are not great choices for pushing that much.
Many people have pushed Tri-X that far before...no reason you can't too.

I just tried Tri-X at 3200 for the first time a couple of months ago, developed with XTOL, not diluted.
I was surprised at how well it came out.
