Quality Generic Square Hood Maker

I've came to the conclusion that there is not a decent square hood with a metal ring that is square shaped for the 43mm filter size.

And i bought it and tell you the truth it's way too big for my nokton 35mm and the plastic ring keeps getting stripped with the metal barrel and the plastic flakes touch the lens.


So my question is can I buy a leica square lens hood and attach it to the lens via an up step ring or by a bayonet mount

I am surprised at this since the pre asph summilux had the same filter size etc.


I have a Voigtlander 35mm F1.4 Nokton and it's filter size is 43mm

Any suggestions welcome.

Wouldn't round vented hood work just as well, at one tenth the cost?

To use the 35 summicron or summilux hoods you will have to ... buy a 35 summicron or summilux.

call SK grimes and tell them what you want to do. If you can think of it, they can make an adapter for it. I've had work done by them before - awesome quality. Whether or not it is worth the money to have a custom adapter made is the next question.

Ok I am going to give them a call. I can't see of any reason to change my 35mm lens for a while so a decent square hood is necessary, thanks!

Well if you wanted the square one for design/looks, then I have nothing against it, but it wouldn't be easy. The JJC one looks (sorry) horrible. 🙁

for people curious it has nothing to do with looks well maybe 5 percent.

I always believed in using square hoods as they match the shape of the image because of this some round hoods like voigtlanders lh still has the risk of flare and vignetting from some of the top and sides.

Plus at the same time leicas square hoods take up less of the viewfinder's view.

You could probably go for the 46mm option and use a standard 43 to 46mm step-up ring.

Suprisingly enough I looked at ebay search, this time for x100 hoods, but I couldn't find it.

unfortunately while i was trying to register to buy it , only japanese cities came up, so it is impossible to get it in the states from that site.

Deniz, I am trying to adapt Leica 12526 square hood (actually for 35/2 Summicron asph.) to my 35/1.4 Summilux-pre. The issue is you can adapt it however with a slight "hit" it's position change and any slight rotation may cause vignetting along the edges/corners.

Yours is screw-mount so be careful when you screw-in it tight the upper edge of the hood would be perfectly horizontal and tight enough to not move. Without bayonet mount or position-pins, square hoods can be trouble.

my question is the nokton also has a bayonet mount for voigtlander hoods and stuff before the aperture ring, so my question is , is it the same size as the pre asph summilux or not??

i wish leica made screw in hoods too :/

it just puzzles me that after the market copies and mimics leica's products they can't seem to mimic a simple yet effective rubber lens hood
