Need to get this off my chest.

Has anyone ever experienced seller's remorse BEFORE a sale?

I think I am.

I got a question about my Nikon S2 and a request for photographs. I got the camera and got it ready for the shots... and then also played with it.

Suddenly, I sensed I was going to make a mistake by selling it.

Fortunately, I don't need to sell it. I could use the cash. granted, but it's not a matter of urgency...

So, I sent a note to DAG asking him about cleaning the VF and aligning the RF. I know about Pete Smith, but I lost his address...

Chances are this camera isn't going to leave home.

Have you been in the same situation? This is the first time. Usually, I know very well what I want to sell and have absolutely no problems about it. This time... I just couldn't part with it.

Oh, well... gearhead that I am.

Cheers!

I haven't sold anything (much to the dismay of my wife) but the feelings you describe are part of the reason. It's not that I can't part with things, but if I buy something, it is usually because I perceive a need. Now I will sell some 9x12 and up to two 4x5, because they are redundant. I really only purchased them for something that came with them, like a lens, or 9x12 cut film holders.

So I perfectly understand.

Yep. Also helps if no-one snaps up the item.

Right now, I'm trying to sell a Rollei 2.8FX.

It is a beautiful camera.

But having the money, to buy some other toy, would be nice.

The camera hasn't sold.

And every question that I answer on it, is making me think, that I don't want to sell it.

Thanks, oftheherd! Thanks, Vick! Your experience makes me feel better.

The potential buyer lives in Spain... I don't feel like sending a camera purchased on my son's first birthday that far away.

Besides, I photographed him a lot with it. I got good photographs with it. It only needs a CLA and that's about it.

Seems like my signature will change... again! ;)

I can't tell you how many times I have done that.....got a camera out to sell then just couldn't bear to do it. I always think that the cash will not be as much pleasure as the camera/lens is painful.....I think I need help!

I sold a big bunch of things recently. My Nikon 35ti, my two Leica meters, an entire medium format system (Mamiya C220 with two lenses and accessories) were gone without my batting an eye. But with this Nikon camera... it's a different story.

Before doing anything, I'll see if I really can take the sale. Heck, it's a camera, not a pet!

I haven´t sold anything from my camera collection but I have given some away to friends who want to try them out - long term loan so to say.... :)

I've sold things that I regret, but never really before the sale. I can say this... I've sold to buy something else and when that happens I'm most remorseful. I think there's greater satisfaction in selling something you truly don't need without the expectation of gaining anything but the cash.

Francisco,

Been there many times over the last two years. Eventually had to virtually sell everything to pay the rent and medical bills. I am committed (or should be anyway, according to my wife;)), to keeping the M3. Managed to sell just enough small items in the closet to pick up a brand new R4, so, it will be fun from here on out.

Seller's remorse. Prior to and after the fact. It is real but your acknowledgment is a battle won. :):)

Francisco, use and enjoy it in good health.

I have big smile on my face over this thread for many reasons. Been there, done that. Been there, didn't do that. Been there, done that, regretted it and then started again ...replacing the mistakenly sold ..., etc.

And, last but not least, I think I know who asked for the pictures of the S2 and I think (he says somewhat sheepishly) that person can't afford it just now. So, everyone lived happily ever after in this story.;)

I fear now that I'll have to cancel the offer and contact the potential buyer.

Wow... am I weak or what?

As a result, no more color film (whose development I have to pay for, unless it's slide, 'cuz I have a few mailers) for a while. I have a nice stash of B&W and plenty of chemicals. And I'll have that S2 fixed. I don't think it's worth selling now.

At least it's good to know that I'm not entirely weird. Good to hear one's not alone!

Take care! :) I'm going to do some work for a change...
