Hi all!

Brand new to this forum, just make an account to make this post, and I hope to find an answer here!

I have in my collection a Leica IIIa that was given to me by my mom's friend. It belonged to her father. The lens that was on the camera when I got it is engraved with "Carl Zeiss Jena Nr. 3113866 T Sonnar 1:1,5 f=6cm"

I have done quite a bit of looking around, and found many people discussing these 6cm f/1.5 lenses, and I gather that they are all/mostly fake. All the photos I've seen in these threads are clearly a totally different model than the one I have, however. The only matching one I seem to be able to find at the moment is this one that sold at auction in 2013. There are also lots of threads mentioning 6cm f/1.5 Sonnars that have photos or ebay listings linked that are no longer visible, so I can't tell if this specific one has been discussed here before, sorry if the answer is right in front of me! I have read through every thread I can find through searching without seeing a photo that looks similar to this one.

The camera body's serial number is 202165, dating it to 1936, I do not know if the lens was purchased with the body, or when my mom's friend's dad acquired either of them, unfortunately. The lens functions perfectly, and appears to couple with the rangefinder accurately.

I'll attach photos of the lens, would love to know anything about it considering I cannot find any information. Also, the step-up ring attached to it was firmly stuck when I got it, so I apologize for that.

Thank you so much for any info! Happy to provide more photos or any other details I have that might be useful.

The Thiele Zeiss lens list has # 3113866 on a 50/3.5 Tessar for a Certo.

Proving the exact heritage may prove quite a task.

Like many other lenses of unknown make after the war,
it may be early post war from a talented back yard mechanic, German or Russian.

Maybe we could consider bring Sonnar Brian back to the forum. His expertise was genuinely valuable in Sonnar lenses, and the discussions were always richer with his input
