Question about Kiev 4AM strap lugs.

The right-hand strap lug on my Kiev 4AM is wobbly. I don't trust it, but I'd like to be able to use the camera without the case, which I won't do now. Is there any fix you are aware of? I had planned to put a dab of industrial-grade epoxy on it to stabilize the thing.

What do others think?

I've had the same issue with mine. I used super glue to secure it. Seems to do the job so far. I'd have no qualms about using epoxy if I had some. A spot of the stuff should be enough.

My Fed2 had the same problem. I put a drop of Loctite on it and have had no further problems.

Slightly off topic:

I've never used Loctite. Don't have any lying around, either. What's it like?

The reason I ask is that I'm sick of the tripod thread adapter unscrewing from my Fed 2. I have some generic strong glue (not quite superglue, but similar) lying around, but wondered if not being a cheapskate and buying Loctite would be the better solution...?

Loctite is a thread locker. It is strong enough to keep nuts and bolts from working loose but not so strong as to prevent you from undoing them with a wrench or a screw driver. You can think of it as a liquid lock washer. Get the blue kind. The red stuff requires application of heat in order to loosen it.

If Kiev's are like Contax bodies the lugs are not as robust as they look. I would be careful even when they are not loose. The info on the Contax comes from Henry Scherer's web page.

I would skip the Loctite and go directly to the epoxy. Loctite is great for screws, but only if applied to the threads before screwing in in.

I guess that for clarity, it should be noted that Loctite is a brand name that covers many types of products. They are best known for their flagship product, Loctite thread binder.
