question for CT residents

hi everyone,
my sister and i are/were thinking about setting up a darkroom. she has the know how. but my place is on a septic system. also i have a 2 year old and the less dangerous stuff around the house, the better. so i was thinking maybe we should try and find and arts center or school that has a darkroom we can use. we live in fairfield county. ....is anyone from this area and know of a place we can look into?
i'm going to call the area universities and maybe the adult ed offices in our area.

NVCC offers photography classes, and while you're there, you have full use of the darkroom. As for setting one up, I have one at home, and kids are always around. As long as you keep the chemicals in a cabinet, you can lock it with no problem. You really won't have more than a handful of bottles of working solutions, and some powders. The graduates/funnels, and everything else are cleaned between sessions anyway, so they pose no real hazard.

As for a community darkroom, if you find one, let me know. I live in Fairfield County as well, and would love to know about it. Thanks 🙂

Cathy, I am along the shoreline, and am not familiar with any courses or community darkrooms in Fairfield County. I agree with Jay about the chamicals. I have a 6 and an 8 year old. I have the chemical bottles in a milk crate that is above their reach. Other than that, I am not worried.

With the prices of darkroom equipment nowadays, you can fully equip your darkroom for much less than the cost of a basic course (or rental time for a darkroom). If you decide to look for equipment, let me know. I posted a few ads recently looking for equipment, and received quite a few replies. I am sure these items are still reliable.
