Well, I missed my X-Pro1 so mch I'm getting one (used) again. I'll have to update the firmware. Before I just had one lens but I'm getting two this time — the 18/2 and 35/1.4.

When updating the lens firmware do you have to have that particular lens mounted? Or does it matter?

I guess the question is if the lens firmware resides in the camera body or actually in the lens.

You have to make sure the camera body is updated first before you apply the lens firmware updates. Each lens has to be mounted and the appropriate firmware added.

The lens must be mounted. The firmware chip is on-board the lens.

I upgrade the body firmware with no lens mounted (just because I'm paranoid about Fuji's inelegant firmware delivery/file labeling practices).

Most importantly, I make four folders before I download. One folder is for the body firmware file and the other three are for each lens. I immediately copy the firmware file to its folder before I begin the next download. This greatly reduces the chance that I will try to load the wromg ffirmware file.

Thanks, everyone. My eyes missed the Fuji explanation. I knew the level of expertise on this forum would give me the proper guidance!

(Kind of nice that Fuji updates as they can, unlike some manufacturers whose name begins with "N".)
