I am shooting exclusively bulk black and white print films now because I can develop the films by myself. I am not planning to develop color film in the near future, but would like to try some color films. I am considering bulk color films but would like to know if any one has had experience on this? Do labs like costco/walmart/walgreen develop self-prepared 35mm color film rolls? Is there any specific things I need to know? Thanks!

Are you planning to shoot movie film? I'd looked recently, and the only color 100' roll I could see was a non-perforated roll at B&H.

Check epay, they generally have a couple of Kodak rolls of various motion picture film on sale. Down side it that most of it is either on 1000' or 400' rolls and will need to be broken down in darkroom.

Most bulk movie films have an extra layer in them that won't process out in a standard C-41 chemistry. You'll need to send it to somewhere that actually processes movie film.

I used to bulk load color print and slide films. At that time, I did my own color processing.

Where can you get current color print film in 100 foot rolls? I tried several years ago, and could not find what I wanted.

You can always have your negatives developed and then scan them. Beware, the price of processing is going up. I used to get it done at Walgreen's for several bucks. Now it's hard to find C-41 processing under $5.00 a roll. At that price, I'd buy a C-41 kit and save up film to run through in a short time.

As KZphoto mentioned cine film/movie film has REM-JET coating, which you either have to manually strip in the darkroom (very long very laborious) then send to process, or send your film to a cine lab to process.

If it goes though a normal c41 process unmarked it will make for a very angry lab operator.

Apology for the confusion. I am not planning to shoot movie film. There are several listings of 100 ft color photographic films on ebay and I am considering that. The thing I do not know is whether costco/walgreen/walmart accept my own film rolls instead of the factored film rolls.

DON'T use Leica cassettes, or some cretin may well write them off by bending the spring clip back at right angles in order to open the cassette. Guess how I know...

Cheers,

R.

Put a piece of masking tape on the cassette and mark it "C-41". They are like robots only searching for one thing...
