Just a quick question for you R users who have an 85mm lens, do you simply use the 90mm framelines? Or do you use an auxiliary finder?

I'm asking because I'm thinking about finding a short tele lens for my R.

Thanks,

Warren

as much as i love the 85 focal length, and the current canon on sale is a great lens, i would recommend getting the 75 cv lens for your bessa.
it is an incredible lens, very sharp and balances perfectly on the r. it is small & light also.
a 35/75 combo with the r is as close to perfection in a single simple kit as i have found.

just my 2 cents

Say, how did you know that the current Canon 85mm LTM on sale is what prompted me to post this question? 😀

I'm also thinking about a Jupiter-9.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the advice.

Same issue with a Leica M3.

I use the outside of the framelines with the 85.

Inside of the framelines with the 10.5cm/2.5 Nikkor. That gives close to 100% framing.

Make sure to get a J-9 that has been adjusted for accurate focus.

I'm not modern enough to have framelines, but I use the 90mm setting on my Imarect finder when I use my 85mm on my Leica IIIf. Works fine. For those who wonder why I don't use the 85 setting on my finder, I will add that, when I purchased the finder I did so to use it with the Leitz 73mm f/1.9 Hektor that I owned at the time, so it has a 73 setting instead of the 85.

This won't help you much but in my opinion any lens longer than 50mm is out of place on a rangefinder camera. A 28-35-50mm combo is all you need 😉

I'm partial to the 85-105 lens for RF's. I like the standoff it allows for "environmental Portraits". (Brian use big word and Lift Heavy camera)

Retina IIIS w Tele-Arton 85/4.

I have both the 75mm voightlander and a NIKKOR 85MM I use the 85 with the 90mm frame lines.

I would also suggest the 75 over the 85 [but I also plan on snagging a 90mm too 😀 ]

Guess I'm the minority here. My J-9 came with a 85mm aux finder, and that's what I use.
