Question regarding strange e-bay stuff

I followed (ok, more than followed) the auction on that mamiya 6 stuff yesterday...
Now i got an e-mail from the owner (at least pretending to be the owner) (see below)

I have no experience with such stuff. What do you think about it?
Details: the stuff had a BIN of almost 2000$ and a reserve that was not met by the highest bid. (Not mine...)

I have begin this second chance offer because the winner of my auction didn't respond to my email. If you do it through ebay - sounds OK.

Ebay second offers are legitimate. The only precaution you have to take is to access the auction and conduct all payments via ebay and paypal, and not via a hyperlink in his email.

If it is a genuine second chance offer, it will appear on your ebay page when you log in. If it doesn't it is not a genuine offer and the guy could be fishing for you details or looking for a deal outside of eBay. If this is the case, I would walk away. If it is there and you like the deal, then go for it.

I think it's a scam. I got one yesterday for a Nikor lens. I contacted the seller-he said it's bogus. Of course I answered the second chance notice first. DUMB! :bang:

If it's legit, there will be a duplicate notice in your eBay messages.

Notice in e-bay mnessages - ok, that's something i did not know and was hoping for. Will check it.
Anyway, the guy porobably knows his stuff is worth much more, since he had a high BIN price, that's why i am a bit suspecting...

No message from ebay in my ebay messages - scam! The other other message expected me to provide my full name, address, and ebay account/login details, as if!

I replied asking him details, and i got an e-mail asking my full name, address, ebay id.
I think it's the same shit you've got. Talisker.
No e-bay message, of course!
I messaged the seller about it, but i guess he has nothin to do with it.
Pity.

By the way, talkiser is good i prefer lagavulin, though!😀

If all communication and payment is carried on through ebay, you will be safer - but still not 100% safe. The seller can still take your money and never send you the product.

I never respond to second chance offers. Even the legit ones. I have received several of these sorts of messages this week. (maybe 15). If I were you, I would really not follow this.

I have had two 2d chance offers, both at good prices for the product and I jumped at both of them. However, they were both transacted on ebay. I don't remember if I got an email. I think I did, but both directed me to an ebay listing of the item with the 2d chance offer.

Otherwise, STAY AWAY! Did I say that loud enough?

One thing toremember, eBay Second Chance Offers can be made to several (or even all) "losing" bidders simultaneously. So you do not have an "exclusive offer" and need to act quickly if you're interested.

However, most bidders are usually bidding on multiple items and have "moved on" by the time they get a Second Chance Offer. My experience as a seller in making Second Chance Offers has never been successful for that reason.

EDIT: I totally agree with above that you should ONLY do this through your: "My eBay" page!

I sent second chance offers on two items during the last 60 days but only to one bidder at a time.

Note: The number of offers you send can't be more than the number of items you have for sale. It is not possible to make Second Chance Offers in a Multiple Item Auction.

If you are a seller with duplicate items available, you can send a Second Chance Offer for each duplicate item. Select one or more bidders that a Second Chance Offer will be extended; you should extend only one offer per item available for purchase

Ebay assigns a new item number to each second chance offer. What happens if two bidders accept their second chance offers and pay you immediately through Paypal?
