you'd go for a bigger bag?
2 bodies and 3 lenses?
Al's got it right. For a 3 week trip you gotta find a way to carry both bodies & the 3 lenses. BTW Have a blast in NYC

For me it is 3 bodies, one with a wide (18/21), one with 35 and 50. Sometimes a 75/90 along. I hate changing lenses! Usually 2 bodies/lenses in the bag and one around the neck. The 3rd body also serves as a back-up in case of problem with the other two. Not too heavy, be it M or Nikon Rf's.

Two bodies and 2 lenses is the simplest IMO.

2 bodies, 3 lenses.
That was my solution for shooting B&W in France. I used two Leica IIIcs, one with a 35mm and the other with a 28mm, both were CV lenses. I had a 25mm CV in the other pocket. I did not carry a bag, many days. When I did, it was a Domke 5XB. I also Had a D-Lux 3 and a D-Lux 4 for color, and could still manage without a bag. I just used a small vest with two main pockets.
Keeping all the cameras and lenses small was the key.

Insufficient information
I've done the 1 body 1 lens. om-1 and 100mm f/2.8 for a trip to Japan. Worked well for me. For that matter, I did a fuji 6x9 rangefinder (fixed lens) on another trip to Japan. Similar idea, but wider view. I shot slides on the om-1 trip and b/w on the 6x9 trip. For a few reasons, the styles of the resulting photos were quite different.
This is probably too much of a personal preference issue to really get meaningful answers to the original question. It depends a lot also on what the main purpose of the trip is and what the main purpose of the photography is, related to the trip, and the other travelers.
The more that my photography might interfere with others' (travel companions) enjoyment of the trip, the less stuff I take, and the smaller the film format gets.
take what will be the most fun for all!

i don't like or own any zooms...
i'd prefer to have a bag with me while travelling the streets of n.y. - i would go without a bag if i were carrying only a body with lens attached.
even my 'big' bag is only the retro 7...not that big.
my shooting won't be only street stuff...i'm staying with friends on the island so it would be nice to be more flexible with my gear and what i can do with it.
i have no problem using 1 or 2 lenses maximum.
i really was more curious if others carry a back up/second body...i do both...use one camera/one lens and sometimes carry 2 bodies with 2 lenses...i'm not married to any one way of doing things...choosing the bag was more because it's new and i want to take it for a good test drive.
for the record, i don't recall ever having a body break down on me when out shooting...except maybe that time i dropped the canon p on the pavement...that hurt.

Did I just practically miss another of Joe's bag threads? ;-)
One bag, one body, three lenses, one iPad mini. That's my travel kit, anyway. ;-)
