Is 700 USD for a mint (as said by the seller) OM-3 a good price ?
I have plenty of cameras, but in my OM line-up, this one is missing ...
Thanks,
Stefan.

I bought a OM-3 last month for 120 e from a professional dealer.
Everything works very well, but mint it is not! But sweet anyway
700 USD is perhaps a bit too much money for a OM-3.

I saw a BGN listed at KEH some months ago for $400 something if I recall. I've seen 'mint' ones going for $600 in other places. Maybe if you offer $600 they'll take it.
Great camera by the way. Compared to the price of Leicas this OM is a great deal.

They are pretty rare so that's not an unreasonable price.

How come it is? You can certainly can get a fine Leica M for $700. Or a modest R system kit for that money.Compared to the price of Leicas this OM is a great deal.

A clean OM3 should be about $500, I come across them quite often. I've been tempted to pick one up, but I have other priorities at the moment.
If the camera is clean, with a clear prism, mirror, good seals, and no brassing, then perhaps $700 is okay. But I prefer less expensive user cameras, as I am a camera user.
You have nothing to lose by negotiating, offer the seller $500 and see what he says.

Where? I think I've only seen one for sale in the last year, and that was the BGN OM-3 on KEH that someone already mentioned. They are very rare, at least as rare as the OM-3T and maybe more so.

It was on eBay, but I don't remember if it was ebay.de, ebay.com or ebay.co.uk (I'm on all three mostly ..). I didn't keep the link because I thought it would be included in my messages to the seller, but it didn't, so I asked the seller to send me the link of the ended auction. I'll pass it on.
I very rarely see the OM-3 anywhere ..
Stefan?.

Sorry Stefan, that question was directed to Frontman who claims to see them "quite often." Like you, I don't see them very often either.

Well, I've found my OM-3, for a better price and a better condition (as far as I can judge from the pictures) as the other one I talked about.
This is what I just got:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110568909198#ht_1101wt_1137
and this is the one I asked about first:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250676203588&ru=http://shop.ebay.de:80/%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp4033.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D250676203588%2B%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1#ht_724wt_1137
.. and now the waiting starts for it to arrive ..

If it makes you happy -- and I hope and expect it will -- it is a bargain no matter the price. An OM-3 was one of only two cameras I have ever bought new. My only regret is that it spends so much time on the shelf these days. But I still get it out for a spin from time to time.

Well, I have to ask: what's the other camera you bought new (and thus should be a worthy competitor to the OM-3

I live in Tokyo, and here camera items which are rare elsewhere are quite common. I know of 3 OM3 cameras for sale right now, two of which are priced below $500. The other is non-functioning, and the seller is asking $150 for it. I know of a couple OM3Ti cameras for sale as well, but they are minty, and priced at $1600 and $1800 respectively.
Here in Tokyo even the original M1 is common, with an original "M system" lens they cost about $500.

Ah I shoulda known. Map Camera had at least 3 minty fresh OM-3Ti's when I stopped by there in March. Wish I had seen that $150 OM-3, I would have snapped it up and upon my return sent it in to John H. for resurrection!
