tip 1: make your own flexiclamps

I couldn't be bothered to spend $60 on a set of tools to work on one specific camera, so I made my own flexiclamps. I used plexiglass (left over from an art project), I suppose metal would be better, but I didn't have any.

I drilled a hole in the middle and then widened it until it was just the right size, then cut the exterior and arms and stuff with a dremel tool.
the thicker the area around the circle is, the stronger the clamp will be. I managed to snap the one on the far left and had to remake it...

they're kind of ugly but whatever.

the clamp for the ring under the rewind knob is made of metal from a 'dog tag'. it has to be thin to fit between the ring and the top plate.

and the pliers cost me $2 at a dollar store; I ground down the tips. this tool is very useful.

tip 2: raise a Leicameter

just another way of preventing rub marks on the top plate.

loosen the three main screws on the foot (it goes in a shoe, so it must be a foot, right?), then tighten the two smaller grub screws. you could also put a paper shim between the shoe and the meter body.

be careful with the 'levelness' of the meter with respect to the foot, adjust the three main screws accordingly.

oh, and you can use LR-44 or similar alkaline batteries in a Leicameter using a washer and a spacer. the spacer needs to be non-conductive and crescent shaped; the washer needs to have a notch filed in it so that it doesn't touch the (+) contact and short the battery.

cheers.

Excellent stuff ... I like this type of thing because it's using stuff that's readily available that doesn't cost a fortune.
