Quitting photography

so.... this is a way to list an ad at rff without having to pay for it?

Well, no one is going to get rich off 17 rolls of film.

A bit of an electrical surge might have accounted for the bulb's demise. Possibly a short in the enlarger. If you can find an ordinary bulb that fits the enlarger, that should tell you if it is at fault.

al1966, for me that is a big step down for a result that I am not passionate about or really interested in. I may as well just continue with the Leica and home darkroom if I go to that effort.

It's neither a big step down nor is it a big effort. Maybe the expense of having a lab develop your film isn't worth it, but you sound like someone who has never actually used a fixed lens rangefinder from the 70's, many of which are excellent picture takers. (KR has nothing but glowing praise for the lowly Oly 35RC). Unless it's C41 b+w film you don't like, which I can understand.

If how you produce final images (ie with film conventional chemistry and an enlarger) totally rules your output, then maybe it is time to step away because obviously you can't envisage being a photographer outside of this box you seem to have created for yourself!

RE: original post. I'm not really sure what this thread is about. You had an equipment breakdown with an enlarger, but it has nothing to do with your ability to shoot? If you do keep going, keep some Raid around to keep the ants from munching on your candy a$$. If you want images, they are out there waiting to be made.

haha. tell it like it is.

It seems to me from various posts he's made that Krzys is a young guy, fairly passionate about things that grab him, and still finding himself artistically, but dissatisfied with what he's currently doing and perhaps a little impatient with himself. Some years ago I put away my cameras, mainly through lack of a darkroom at the time, and took up watercolours. Took lessons. Eventually decided I was a better photographer than I was ever going to be an artist and picked up the cameras again.
I think Krzys will come back to photography - when he's experienced some other options. I'd say to him "Yes, it's hard to look after a valuable camera when you're backpacking and fruit picking. Don't sell the Leica though, just put it away safely, because one day you'll want it again and maybe then it will be harder to replace. Take your pad and pens, take a small digital P&S, and go. You'll either be very good and very satisfied with the chosen medium for artistic expression or you'll have had enough experiences where you wish you'd had a good camera that you'll take it up again. And good luck".

I think you're right ... I've noticed that since he joined here he's cycled through a fair amount of gear and formats and does seem to be searching for something but not quite finding it.

He's very passionate about conventional wet printing I've noticed ... but maybe needs to stop thinking that this particular facet of photography is the holy grail and just enjoy the shooting process a little more!

I'll add that I have met Chris and he is an obviously highly intelligent and likable young guy. 🙂

Cheers Keith. I change my mind so much that I've learned to know when I'm set on something 😀 I think...and what can I say...wet prints just look soo good

I can't disagree with that ... nice to know that you haven't strangled yourself with a cable release in frustration ... just yet! 😀
