Something that I have to seek your advices:

Is the R-D1 using the same rangefinder technology as Voitglander? I mean when you focus thru the viewfinder you can only align the two images coincidently left and right, but not up and down? I mean for example you can align a vertical line as a coincident image but not a circle?

yes, you align the images left and right, but it doesn't matter what shape they are, it's just that the movement is left-right. A circle will still coincide when focused, but for -small- movements, vertical lines are easier to align than others, and horizontal lines are the least easy to align unless you tilt the camera.

May be I express this way: when I aim at an object (say a circle) directly, I can make the left-most and right-most circumference of the two images inside the viewfinder coincide, but not the top-most and bottom-most points. Which means I always have to find some objects with vertical lines for focusing but not horizontal lines.

Is this normal? I do not have the above problem from my M6, but I don't own other brands RF cameras as well. So I just wonder whether I should send the R-D1 back to the agent for repairing?

Aha! This is the notorious vertical misalignment that has been written about a lot on this forum. It's possible to adjust this so that the circle will exactly coincide. There are threads here about viewfinder adjustment, and the vertical alignment is the easiest to do, but it does require taking off the hotshoe and having a go with a small screwdriver.

If you're very nervous about doing it, then you could send it in, but if you feel up to it, it's about a 20 minute job to do yourself.

Hope this helps
