How did you get them to do a warranty exception? What did you say to them?
I wonder if they would also fix a camera out of warranty if one was willing to pay?

Kunger, congrats with your repaired R-D1!
Which Jessops battery did you get? The only np-80 Jessops battery I can find on jessops.co.uk is not 1500mAh but 1300mAh. Priced at nearly 20 gbp, I find that a bit expensive. One can get 1300mAh batteries for a few dollars on eBay. 1500mAh batteries on the other hand are nearly non-existent on eBay.

Basically I told them that the camera was brand new, still had all the plastic protecting all the glass parts, and not so much as even a speck of dust on it. I showed them proof of purchase (PayPal receipt), and told them what the problem was. The next thing I knew, they made a warranty exception.

Yeah, I couldn't find the battery on the Jessops site either. However, Adam-T was the one that tipped me off on the battery and gave me the part number... JESHLNP80 (don't go looking it up on their site, it won't be their eithe). Phone a Jessops shop, ask if they have the battery in stock, confirm that it's the 1500 mAh 3.6v and have them hold it for you. I don't know if they'll ship it out, but they will hold it for a pick-up.

7dayshop have 1500 Mah at 5.99GBP each. I have 3 and they have proved as good as the Epson:

Amazon UK did have a 1500 Mah but now have a 1450 Mah for 3.24GBP plus others from 1350 MAh:

Usual proviso's about batteries in the R-D1 as in previous threads.

shutter release problem
shutter release problem
Hi Kevin,
I bought my RD-1s 4 weeks ago and had the same problems. At the beginning the shutter "freeze" problem occured randomly after every 30 shots. I switched off and on again and sometimes when I didn`t heard that click I could continue. Then it happened all the time until finally the shutter didn´t work anymore.
In the archive some users are reporting that problem. I think it has nothing to do with the battery. Send my camera back last week (its within warranty). Serial number was 101555. I´ll see what happens
Best regards

I have a hard time fathoming what all the foofraw is about batteries for the R-D1. Epson's battery is nothing more than a standard 1500 mAh NP-80 with an Epson label and an increased price. You can buy them by the truckload all over the place. If you're in the U.S. try www.greenbatteries.com, for instance. I have one Epson battery and four NP-80s for my R-D1. I use them all in sequence and charge tham all in sequence. Unless you look at the label it's impossible to tell the difference.
