R-D1 somewhere?

You're absolutely right but customs have not always the time to do searches like that in practice so with a bit of chance, VAT and customs duties may be calculated on the declared value instead.
Now the same declared value will be used for insurance as well so it's hardly a winning-winning deal in case of damage to the camera needless to say.

Exactly!

For these reasons, if you are going to buy a used R-D1, I strongly suggest you seek one out within the EU. There is always at least one for sale on german ebay.

Mmmhh

Mmmhh

Under some circumstances the Epson R-D1s isn't in ebay anymore. Can't tell you why, but tomorrow I'm driving to Bonn and get my nearly new Epson R-D1s. What a coincidence :D

Thanks for all your help in this really friendly forum!

Congratulations Fligor ... and don't forget it's a tradition to post your first pic with the new tool here! :D

Having followed all the recent threads on the forum regarding the Epson I took the chance of buying from Matsuiyastore last night. Got myself an RD1. Gonna be using a 40mm Rokkor and a CV25/4p

i've just returned from a trip to tokyo and bought a new d1s at yodobashi for a whopping €800, brand new sealed in box. they even had new batteries and the official epson case in stock. just a quick advice that w/ current ebay prices you might just fork out the money for a weekend trip to japan and get yourself a nice gadget right on site.
-- cheers from austria

Waiting...

Waiting...

Okay, I messed up to get money soon enough. Bank was closed... ATC has a way to low output limit. I have to wait untill next wednesday. Then the rd1s comes in a small package. :bang:

I'm so excited!

@kuvvy
you bought it. wondered who did. the world is a tiny little place.

I live in Tokyo and can't believe that. The R-D1S is listed on their site and in stores for 220,000 after their point discount brand new. Thats 1690 EURO.

I think it's absolutely amazing that a camera that's been around as long as the Epson, and mind you with a puny six megapixel sensor, commands so much respect and is still very high on a lot of people's shopping lists!

It's impressive and it makes you realise how open and receptive the market would be to a digital Ikon from Zeiss!

What the **** are they waiting for? :p

Nobody's able to cope with vignetting on full frame DRFs so far.
Curved sensors could do it perhaps but we'd need different lenses most probably.

So we would need different curved sensors for different lenses. And for this reason is Leica going the way with coded lenses and Epson raw is doing this job (very well) afterwards.

Okay, and for stretchable sensors (not the microprismen stuff) new typ of lenses will be necessary, no summacrons, no summiluxes and so on, because the sharpness has not to be plain. In the end this will mean "forget RFF"

that's what i paid for the camera and a nice voigtländer lens; i suppose they have the cam on clearance in anticipation of the X. btw it was the shinjuku store and they still have one on display.

My RD1 from Matsuiyastore arrived this afternoon in ......3 days! Super speedy service for sure. Unfortunately I'm having to charge the battery for upto 3.5 hours and the light is fading now, so it'll be tomorrow before I can tell you more.

Okay guys, I managed a few shots today with my new to me RD1 and I'd like your opnions please. Not so much about the pictorial content, more on the results from the camera / lenses.

You can see them all here

The two I've posted here are of concern to me in that they show some smearing in the top left corner. It's not actually the same corner on each photo. Both taken wide open on the 40mm Rokkor.
