Hello,

i am in the market for a R-D1s and it seems that new ones are still sold from japanese dealers on eBay for about 2100 US $
As i live in Germany, it woult total to ca. 1875€ / 2750 US $ incl. shipping, customs and import taxes.

Did anyone deal with one of these stores?
Matsuiyastore
i-Qju
DigitalRev

All three seem to have a very good reputation, but i wander if somebody here had an international transaction with one of them?

Thanks in advance,
Matthias

I've dealt pleasantly with Matsuiya a couple times; they tend to have high prices, but they've got the goods that few others do! They also offer some used items like my 50 Planar-ZM.

I purchased a Zeiss ZM body from Matsuiyastore.
Noriaki was very honest and accomodating.
I would recommend him.

I have bought from Matsuiyastore on a number of occassions, including my first R-D1. They are quite good: very fast and clear communication, always ship what they promise when they promise, and lighning fast arrival in the US from Japan - usually 3-4 days. I reccommend them highly. Don't know about the others, as I haven't dealt with them before.

Damn. $2750
Those $1600 refurbs from Epson awhile back are looking like better and better buys.

I'll also chime in to say that Matsuiyastore is great to do business with. Very professional, good communication and swift dispatch.

Matthias, do you have any reliable friends living outside of the EU? You could have the camera sent to them first and then forward it to you so that you could save on customs and import duties. Heck, if I were you, I'd consider just using the extra $650 to help pay for a weekend vacation in Japan and buy the camera (and maybe some cool used lenses) there! Another option is to buy a used one here on the classifieds. (You may have already considered whether buying used is the right choice for you, and decided against it. I did, and so far it has worked out just fine). One just went for US$1200. Was that you who got it? If so, congratulations! If not, don't despair, another will turn up (not necessarily at that price).

US$2100.- = Euro 1440 + 20%VAT over the total incl. shipping.
Think there is also a 6% import duty.
Anyhow it seems to me very interesting and the store is great.
I bought an Epson P5000 from them.

Thanks a lot for all your input!

I will contact Matsuiyastore in the next days to clarify some details.
The price of $2750 in the end is a bit high, but due to the good exchange rate $ <> Euro (at least good for me ;) ) i can accept that.
It is still EUR 3000 less than a new M8 in Germany and i like the R-D1s better anyway ;)

Unfortunately not. But that wouldn't help, as german customs don't care if the parcel was sent by a dealer or a private person, or if it is marked as a gift etc.
You have to add ~20% tax+customs duty anyway.

Listen to Geo he's got it right.

You will have to pay an addition 19% MwSt. on the declared value, which is the value of the item PLUS the shipping cost.

So that 1875€ is the price before you have to fork over at least another 356,25 € MwSt. when you show up at the Zollamt!!!

This will push the total price to around 2283:

1875 Cost
52 € Import Duties
356 € MwSt.

You would be much better off buying a used R-D1 from a local seller who will allow you to test the camera before purchasing it.

Hi Kevin,

i know, the total of 1875 is incl. shipping, customs and tax :)

A new R-D1s on ebay inc. shipping to Germany is +/- 1500€, depending on the seller.

I just checked zoll.de, and according to the TARIC-List, a digital camera should not result in any custum duties.
If you check TARIC code 8525803000 (digitale Fotoapparate) the online search form says 0% custom duties from Japan. But i will try to verify that .

So if i'm lucky, it will "only" add the 19% Mwst.

I'll check that out, thanks for the ref bzw. link.

I bought brand new Rd1 from Italy with warranty for 1500 euros. I think it is reasonable price. It was Luigi, leather case maker to Leica bodies who I bought from. Maybe he has some left in the stock? Ask him
