Just so others don't tread the same path, here was the response from MapCamera:

"Dear Dan

thank ou for you inquiry.

About your request items new Epson RD-1S camera.

The high costs items such as exceed ¥200,000 require to make an actual
export procedure.
Since we cannot provide any actual export procedure, we cannot ship such
items to overseas.
We reject all payment method for high costs items even bank transfer.

We apologize not be able to meet your expectation this time.

Regards,"

Thanks for posting that. I've always wondered what Map Camera's overseas sales policy is. Now I know there isn't one. They are a great store to deal with if you're visiting/living in Japan though. I've bought several lenses there, and have also sold some gear to them for reasonable prices.

Another vote for Matsuiya. I've bought from them, perfect service. A friend bought a used Nikon 28mm f/1,4 from them that turned to have element separation - they took it back and gave an immediate refund (I think including the return shipping cost).

Tahnks alot for all your replies!
I just ordered a R-D1s from Matsuyastore :)
I will see, how much i have to add exactly for custom duties and tax, but i think it will be a good deal anyways. So i have a christmas gift for myself now, time to get something for the rest of the family :D

Congrads on your purchase! I'd like to do the same, but I can't seem to find the Matsuyastore on ebay in the US... I can find them in Germany... Do they not ship to the US?

Thanks much,
-D

There is - 2.5% I believe. And of course you add VAT and the handling charge on top of that, plus the three weeks a chargeable package is likely to take to get through customs these days...

Congrats - how about getting your family a nice collection of m-mount lenses :p

Shipment to US.

Shipment to US.

Are there fees, customs for shipment to the US.

Gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorely tempted by the R-D1. I don't get time to scan film anymore. In RF's I have two Bessas, VC 21, 35, & 50. If I bought the R-D1, I would need to get the VC 12, Zeiss 21/2.8 & 35/2. I'd be in a serious doghouse.

Yeah

Yeah

I got a couple of these and the were brand new.

I wouldn't hesitate buying from Matsuiyastore, got my Zeiss 28/2.8 from them in about 4 days to Calif.

I forgot to report, that the deal with Matsuiyastore turned out very good.
On the same day i made the payment, the R-D1s left Tokyo and arrived at Frankfurt airport the next day.
Then it was transferred to my local custums office - which took four days - and after paying an equivalent to US$ 425 for import taxes i finally got the parcel handed over. Fortunately, the camera survived everything safe and sound.

I can only agree with all the praise for Matsuiyastore. Fast, friendly and cooperative - highly recommended!

And here it is, waiting to capture the moments to come:

Hi,

I ordered my R-D1S from Matsuiyastore, too. Ordered on thursday, arrived on next monday here in CH. As far as I can see everything is ok, no RF problem and everything else works ok. Only the included CD was japanese only, so I had to download the software from the WEB. An english copy of the manual was included.

Regards,
Andy
