They appear to be in very short supply in Australia.

i saw one on display at FotoRiesel in Sydney 6 weeks ago.
There can't be too many M bodies in Australia so i wouldn't imagine the distributors would be in any rush to bring too many EVF's in.
Have you considered the Olympus VF2?

I haven't seen of the the Leica "Visoflex" adapters yet. I have a Kipon adapter which works ok for adapting R lenses to any M-mount body, but it doesn't have the electronics in the Leica so won't give you the lens codes. I'd rather have the Novoflex or the Leica in the end, but it will be at least a year or so before I buy the M(240) and I'm in no rush.
I am not sure why you want the Leica branded EVF. It is identical to the Olympus VF-2 model, and costs at least twice as much.

I use the Oly VF2. Works just fine, much easier to find. Works on my father's Olympus M43 camera too.

Received my Leica EVF last Friday. Yes, just the same as the Olympus with a Leica label plus an extra $300 price tag but after the cost of the Typ 240 who really notices such trifles?
I am reliably informed that the R to M adapter has not been released anywhere to date.
I am trying not to think about it too much as I don't want anything to tarnish my honeymoon with this lovely new camera but I am not too sure I am happy with the marketing of the Leica M which has consistently placed significant emphasis on the advantage of being able to use R lenses though a Leica adapter. I think a fair expectation in buyers would be that the adapter would be available, even in limited numbers, about the same time as the camera's release.
I will admit that I probably would have bought the camera when I did anyway but the intriguing prospect of using the R lenses I have was a bit of a sweetener.
It is a lovely camera though.

shortly before the camera was released there was a guy on FM who was a working pro with the R line posted his thoughts on a pre-production setup he had been given access too.
his ultimate conclusion was that the M240 was not the ultimate R solution he had been hoping for. I know the LV magnification being locked in the center was part of the issue.
Second hand info, I know, but I would suggest looking for that thread on FM if you are really interested.
FWIW I wish you luck in your endeavors. Leica R is still the height of telephoto and macro design IMO.

Understand it has not been released; however, I have 2 R to M8 adapters the ray quil fits very well. As to use, you would have to fly by the seat of your pants; manually setting ap, shutter and focus by guess. I was playing around today, not any pics of note. I was just trying to find out what I could get. Tried all R's -50, 135, 28/70 and 500 mm's. I have per ordered the M240 adapter. The other adapter (don't recall the name) more expensive was quite loose. Hope zi helped.

The advantage of the M as an R replacement is not having to carry a second system and still have a superb image quality. The EVF is just adequate for the purpose.
For convenience a real DSLR is superior, for instance a 5Diii with adapter or a Nikon D800 with Leitaxed lenses or a DMR. Forget about the small NEXes and 4/3rds bodies. They are too small and/or light to balance properly with the heavy R lenses.
I am quite happy to ditch my DMR or Visoflex system when taking my M into Africa next month. It saves me several KGs in my camera bag.
I will be using a coded Novoflex adapter.
I also have a coded and modified Leicina adapter which works well too.

There are no electronics in the Leica adapter. It is as passive as any other adapter.

True, I misspoke. It's coded, and brings up the lens codes for R lenses for Yu to select.
But according to a post on another forum I read recently, the Novoflex adapter will soon do the same thing.

There are a number of Novoflex adapters. It is a surprise which one you will get:
1. Uncoded
2. Coded with a single stripe. Works.
3. Coded with single stripe and five depressions. Works well.
4. Provided with a white field. Must be hand coded with a lead pencil. Works, but the pencil may wear off (not too easily) and may dirty the coding LEDs.
I got #4 and have sent it in to Will van Manen for proper coding.

That's interesting. I've never bought an R->M adapter from Novoflex. The other Novoflex mount adapters I've bought have all been precisely right, but they weren't for mounting things on M-bayonet.

A Sydney based Leica outlet has advised that they received 5 of these adapter a few weeks ago (I am later on their waiting list) and expect to receive a few more before Christmas.
They are out there. Has anyone tried one?
