I like mine. I've got the grey R2a, too. No black bodies. One chrome body (a Kiev 4am).

I like the colors because they're different. Yeah, I know...but I'm the sort who get's pissed when I hear someone say "you have to have a black body 'cause it looks more 'professional'" or 'you have to get a rangefinder in chrome 'cause it looks more 'classic'".

You wouldn't belive how many of my photo-friends couldn't understand why I bought a metalic FM3a and not paid fifty bucks more for the "more professional" black one.

Anyway, having the olive and grey Bessas is just my personal statement against that sort. 😉

I have a black R2a with a <gasp> silver Ultron 35/1.7. Damn the man! I'm in the camp that I'd rather pay for performance/reliability/condition than uniqueness. I can understand the desire for those colors, etc though. I'm that way with other things. Maybe its about seeing the camera as a tool?

Green is my favorite color. I have a green R2 also, Its a great camera and the color is very useful. I have sevral cameras and sometimes I will have 3 in use in a fast situation, The different color body lets you know which is which. Sometimes if I use color film I put it in a colored body and black and white in a black body. Also if you have lenses that are similar like a same 35mm lense but one is SC you already know without having to look. Colored camera straps can do the same but I realy like the green colored cameras. I saw a realy sweet Leicaflex outfit with 4 lenses recently and all Safari, I believe it was from a collector but it showed no signs of ever being used and price was very reasonable, To bad I passed on it.

I do see my cameras as tools. My olive bessa R2 has the scratches to prove it (it's well past resellable to a collector 🙂 ). My "statement" is just the same as yours (read my post again). What difference does it make so long as it works?

Who cares! My black Leica CL body is "silvering" while my chrome M bodies are "brassing". The black Bessa L is showing white plastic on the corners and edges. What counts are the images that comes out of them. I have matt chrome and shiny black and not so shiny black Leitz lenses, a black 15/4.5 Voigtlander lens and a shiny chrome 85/2 Nikkor. They're just tools

wotta thread. the cool factor of grey or olive bessas or refitted pink leicas is hard to dispute. but i am not cool, as my kids endlessly remind me. which explains my simple black or black/chrome cameras. i do have a few stickers on one to get a few style points, anyway.

All my camera colours are chrome with black leather/vulcanite because that is what crossed my path at point of purchase. I of course use all my cameras. Now the big decision spring for this camera from a dealer I don't know or spend the extra $150 and get the R2a in basic black from Mr Gandy.

You can't buy R2 new anywhere any more as far as I know. I looked for one before I got my R. And they are pretty rare on used market too. R2 is a mechanical camera where R2A has electronically controlled shutter and AE. I'd love one, to replace my R as a daily shooter because of the improved build quality and M mount.

Hi Brian, I know the store you're talking about, their price varies, you have to bargain. I go to Po-ai Rd. Camera district all the time, I lived because there is photography and camera gears.
CV 35 1.7, 50 1.5 is too big and too heavy also block the viewfinder which I hate to the bone.
Rangefinders are best for 50mm and shorter, I don't care about 50s they are USELESS(don't get mad), so they have big upfront glass, maybe best for shooting your pre-teen kids, that's all. Imagine I have Pentax, Minolta, Nikkor, Canon, the big four's 50mm f1.4, but in my 20 years of works, I have NEVER used them, one reason because I have 35mm f2 or 2.8 on the wing, and lately I bought a lot of 28s and acustomed to use 28mm's perspective, 28 is the best for me now. CV's 28 is a 3.5 which I do not understand, my EBC Fujinon 28mm 3.5 is a great lens, CV should make a 28 2.8, (of course, Kobayashi does not work for me) but NO.....they don't have it, and I hate Zeiss so there you go.
Taipei, is a great city. Lots of stuffs all within Metro link.

I have a bunch of 4,5,6 MP digital p&S also, I like them a lot, most old guys in this forum have never try sashimi (black tuna, He-wai-yu fish is the best), digital is like He-wai-yu.
