R3A on the way ----- soon

A few months ago I stated that I would not be buying a RF camera. Well, I changed my mind. Gandy called me today to get some credit card info and told me he should be receiving the R3A in 10 days.

I plan on comparing the new 40 MC to my Canon 17-40 and will post my findings.

When Steve said 10 days I asked if that was when it would get to me. He said, that is when he will get the camera. So I expect 14 or so working days till I get it depending on his method of free shipping.

I will let you and everyone else know when the camera arrives. And yes, I might be willing to meet you for coffee. No Starbucks here yet.

I think we're all curious about how quiet the shutter is on the new R3 series. Hope you can give us a little mini-review after you've run a couple of rolls through it!

When I talked with Stephen last, he was guessing about 3 weeks. That puts mine coming in about the same time as yours, so I guess things haven't slipped at all.

I also have the R2, so I can put the R2 and R3a though a shutter noise test when I get it 🙂

I probably wouldn't be a good person to describe shutter noise as I work with SLR's. Come to think of it, I do have a Leica M1 that I could compare it to. It's not a camera I use, but the shutter does work.

As long as I don't put the R2, R3a, any Leica M, or my SLR's next to my digital P&S, one of them should sound quiet. But against the P&S, they all loose. I can't hear the shutter even when its next to my ear and I'm listening for it. I use it as my street camera when stealth is important.

I have a Canon s50 and unless you dial in the artificial shutter noise, it is completely silent. It is a very nifty street shooter.

Anywho, we have a hands-on report on the R3a from photo.net - sounds great, I'm looking forward to receiving it!

The only reason he called was b/c he had filed away my credit card info and needed it again. It was then that he offered up the info on the R3. I guess the man just wants to get paid.
