hello!

.. my new R3A's vertical RF focusing patch is out of whack.

From the searches I've run there seems to be an easy DIY fix floating around on here, but I can't identify the proper thread / can't find the instructions that don't need the top cover to be removed. could anyone point me to the right direction?

and yes, the Bessa is almost brand new, yet if it's easy to do I'd like to do this myself, as I can't always send it back when something like this happens.

thank you for your time,

max

remove the hotshoe (plate, then unscrew the 4 screws, 3 black and 1 silver)

there is a hole on the top-right with a slotted screw underneath (assuming the back of the camera is facing you).

That's the vert. alignment adjustment. Play with it while looking through the VF until it's right. 🙂

i actually have the same problem with my (brand new) R3A... but i am somehow afraid of doing it myself...

Brian, thanks for your short decription, but is there maybe a more in-depth text about this matter? maybe even with some pictures of the process?

thanks in advance

I'll try and put something more detailed on my website later this week.

thanks, Brian! looking forward to it.. still negotiating a quick exchange with the dealer.. but DIY preferred.

well, Milos- this is the Berlin Misaligned Bessa Club, or what? 😉

If your Bessa R3 is out of alignment from the dealer new it should be aligned free of charge under warranty.
Aligning the rangefinder in the Bessa's whilst touted as easy is also very easy to stuff up. Especially if you are not steady or have the patience to do the task at hand. I know I have done them and if you get it wrong it can be a pain to sort out I use a Nikon eyepeice magnifier which brings up the magnifcation so I can just see the rangefinder patch.
As I have said it should be covered under warranty and infact any good dealer should check them before sending them out to mail order customers or happily sort it out for you.

It is like ajusting the SU carbs on performance cars years ago, takes time and fiddling to get it right.

Cheers Chavo
