R3m/R2M question

I just got an R3M. After I take a shot and advance the film, it appears that the only thing that turns on the meter is pressing the shutter button down halfway no matter whether the advance lever is half cocked or not. Therefore if this is so, don't I run the risk of taking a shot when I don't want to, like pushing up against the camera while walking, etc? Therefore isn't it better not to advance the film after a shot unless I know I am going to take another shot right away?

Well, not advancing the film is a sure way of avoiding an accidnetal shot, although if you are not ready you might also miss that special moment! - Sure enough pressing te shutter button half-way down is the only way to activate the meter, but I've been carrying my R3M around for 6 weeks or so without taking an accidental shot. On my R3M the button depresses for the first 'half' quite easily, the second half (to take a shot) requires extra pressure.

I'm not sure that this answers your question, but I always keep mine wound on and ready..

Do you like the camera? and did you get the Helair 50/f2 lens with it?

i found that just advancing it after each shot worked- i'd only NOT advance it before putting it away in the Domke. 🙂

I used to have an R3A, sold it and went all manual. So I am mostly using the CV 40mm 1.4. Works great. Thanks for the comments.

I've got the R3A (but it works much the same as the R3M) and used to be nervous about the 'accidental shot' situation, but it has actually never happened in one year of daily use.

I've had my R3M for about a month now: any users report problems with theirs? So far its been good. I have found the exposure readout in the v/f can be tricky to see at times, and the flashing "correct exposure" light in the middle bothers me, I would rather it simply lit up when the aperture/shutter speed value was correct. Also the rangefinder seems to be a tiny bit out, so that a lens focused at infinity has to be backed off slightly for the image in the rangefinder to coincide exactly. I will probably send the camera back to Rich Pinto for adjustment, but its such a hassle sending it through the US and Canada customs I'm loathe to do it.

This is good advice. I've a my share of blank shots from putting the camera in the bag with the shutter cocked.
