R4 or R2?

I own a 28 & 50
which one to use?
My concern is the size of the 50 frame in the R4
Is it like the 90 on the R2?
Is it big enough not to be an issue?

I would say that the 50mm frame in the R4 is close in size to the 75mm frame in the R2, maybe a bit larger.

I have a ZI, but I think both 50mm and 28mm lines are just "good enough". I sometimes think I'd be better off with two Bessa bodies, one for long lenses and one for wides. I love the ZI though, so I doubt I ever would.

More concerned about about the 50mm FL, If I get an R4, I don't want it being to small for regular use., The 28 is no problem on the R4 since it will be like 35mm on regular VF as I understand.

Camera Quest doesn't have a mock up or the actual VF Frame lines like the R2/3 has to compare side by side.

When I sell my Pentax gear in Feb., I will buy the X100, And may also move over to the R4a with the M5 sale, that will also fund a Panny 14mm .
And then sell my Oly 17mm regardless, but add the 20mm Panny if I get a R4a

My kits may look like:

M5 28mm and 50mm
X100 23mm (35mm)
G1 14mm (28mm)

OR

R4a 28mm and 50mm
X100 23mm (35mm)
G1 14mm and 20mm (28mm and 40mm) + Adapted M glass.

Check out the Robert White website. For the R4A/M there are mini pictures showing how the different framelines are represented in the viewfinder. Unfortunately they don´t show the same for the R3s or R2s.

Use another body for the 50 if you use the 50 constantly or for close focusing or if it's a real fast 50... The R4 was designed for people owning other cameras and requiring a better platform for wider lenses (15 as in SLRs-21-25-28-35) and its 50 is for emergency use, although it can be used without problems... But any other model will be more comfortable -visually- for a 50, not just for focusing but especially for composing...

You have a valid point about a 50 on a R4.
You know, talking out-loud to help me look at options and convince, and best bang for the buck.

Just trying to figure it out....

Keep the M5 (most likely)

Sell the Pentax Gear (low mileage an all of it), and the OLY 17mm (X100 covers this + 1 stop more)
Get the X100 and the Panasonic 14mm for the G1. + I can use my 28/1.9 ASPH and 50/1.5 C-Sonnar on the G1 AND M5

My M5 has 28-135, But, by selling it with my Pentax gear, and the Oly 17, would allow me to get less expensive RF PLUS afford a bit more for Digital lenses for my G1... IE: 14 and 20. And also have enough for the X100, The R2a would be essentially the same (per-say) as the M5, as far as the VF, (NOT, longer base RF though) -- I did own a an R2 at one time (1st model, no "M" on face plate. Although the Build Quality of the M5 is far and above the Bessa's.

But, I am not liking the IDEA of selling the M5... (It was my 1st M ever when I was too young to appreciate it and sold it to get an SLR again)... I don't need to do that this time around. I have a G1 I use, and a DSLR that I don't use that much anymore. And I don't shoot over ISO 500 either, So the G1 is OK for that... But, when I want High IQ at high ISOs, the X100 will fit the bill quite nicely I hope and believe. And leave the G1 for lower than ISO 500 stuff with OEM and adapted lenses.

I may just get the 14 for the G1, because Wide adapted lenses don't work so well on u4/3 cams. I can use my 28 on the G1 with pretty good results, and the 50 with great results. So, the G1 will have 28/56/100 as far as available FLs

SO, maybe I'll end up with
