r4m

I have an R4A, and have used an R4M. My preferred focal length is 35mm, and I really like 21mm a lot, too. The R4 is a great camera for these focal lengths. Shutter can be kinda loud, but camera appears to be very reliable. I don't use 50s much, but it is OK for that too, as long as you don't need to shoot at f2 or wider. The only thing that I don't like about the R4 is that the display in the viewfinder is sometimes hard to see, unless I have my eye in exactly the right place. Other than that, a great camera.

paired framelines are great!

paired framelines are great!

Everybody talks about how excellent the R4* is for 28 because of the solitary framelines. Indeed, it is.

It should be noted however that the doubled framelines accommodate paired lenses exceptionally well. These are not like Leica's pairings, such as 50-75, that would almost never be used in tandem in the field.

Since I love 24-50 and often use the R4* with this pair, it is also very convenient and less distracting overall to have both paired together in the same window.

The same could be said when I opt for a 21 - 35(40), too.

What Earl and Rob said.
What a classic!

I never had a Bessa 35mm RF before, but if I ever do, R4M would probably fit the bill nicely.

Btw, anyone know why there are no 24mm lenses for RF cameras? or is there?
Leica's are 24mm not 25mm. So there you are.

My R4M is a great camera. I bought mine new!
I wish that I had bought the R4A instead, but that's neither here nor there.
It's a fantastic wide angle shooter, and will work fine with slower 50mm lenses.

I've primarily used it with a 28mm and a 35mm, and have never missed focus despite the low-mag finder. Being able to shoot without those horribly distracting accessory finders is a delight.

The viewfinder is fab and the rangefinder patch never flares. The meter is great!
Film winding and loading is a breeze. The only thing that I have to say about the camera is I don't like the placement of the strap lugs. It causes the camera to hang funny if using a conventional strap. If you're using a wrist strap up some sort this is, of course, a non-issue.

The main differences between a the R4M and a Leica would be the swing back for easier loading, a light meter with more information, a stiffer, one-part advance lever, manual frame-line selection, a shutter speed of 2000, and useful flash sync of 1/125. It's also lighter, and can be picked up used for a fraction of the price of any M.
