Raid is in Oslo

Hi Francisco,
Their coffee tastes good to me.
Things are very expensive when you come from tne USA. You feel quite "poor" in Oslo!

This is my third visit to Norway so far.


I always liked to travel, and this is maybe why I left Iraq in 1981. I wanted to explore the world. I will give two long presentations on my research on cancer clusters and on air quality clusters in the USA at Frankfurt an der Oder (Viadrina University) during this trip.

One of the exciting events for me will be a meeting with my middle school friend from Germany. We have not had any communications since over forty years when I was living in Germany. He is now a well known lawyer in Berlin.i foubd him through some internet search of my middle school Niculaus Cusanus Gymnasium.
 
I've experienced the floating purchasing power of the Euro. In Germany and Spain, it was more or less stable and predictable, but in Amsterdam... crazy expensive! 🙂

All my past friends (and friends from the past) are in Guatemala. I haven't been there since 2010. Perhaps it's about time to return... Have you ever been to Berlin? I liked it when I went there, I think in 2008, but also have the feeling that I left too soon.

Enjoy Frankfurt! I always landed and departed from there, but never really visited. Take care and keep us posted! 🙂
 
There are at least two German cities called Frankfurt. Most know Frankfurt with the large airport (Located at the River Main). We are going to "the other Frankfurt", which is located East of Berlin at the Polish border at the River Oder.
 
Hi Raid, I'm sure it will be for you all an intense and exciting experience. Knowing different places and cultures it's a good way to grow up. Curious to see the photos. Simo and me are also planning a trip towards north, maybe Denmark but we'll be free only in the second part of july. It's around 30 °C here and I'm envious of you rain and temperature ! Kiss the girls from our side, ciao enjoy the trip!

Hello Robert,
Today's drive took us from semi warm weather in Oslo to cool weather with snow tipped mountains and frozen lakes on our way to Aurland at the Sognefjord. The road was often narrow, and the many tunnels were dark. We finally arrived to Aurland, and we are waitibg for our dinner to be served at out hotel. My goal was to show such scenery to Rasha and the girls.
 
I have been in the South of Norway around 35 years ago (time is quick) and still remember the beautiful places. Yes roads were narrow and the medium speed was slow compared to our habits, but the view was unique!

We are now in Aarhus, Denmark, and tomorrow morning we will meet with Fred for breakfast.

Our trip to Aurland was brief, but it showed us beautiful scenery. Then, we stayed at Langesund Bad, which is a historical resort from 1899 in Langesund, which happens to have a ferry from there to Hirtshals, Denmark. The four hour ferry ride was fun for all.
 
I like using the Zeiss 45/2 with the EP2 as a 90mm lens for isolating portions of some street scenes, while the pre-asph 35/1.4 on the M9 is very versatile for most situations. I used up modt of my memory cards, and I have two blank cards left that I could use in the coming days. One (other) card does not respond for some reason. It may need reformatting or it is defective from the start.

We are staying four nights in Oslo, followed by a one day side trip to Aurland, at the edge of Fjord country. I want to show my family some stave churches from the times of the Vikings.

Last time I was in Oslo, I camped in one of the large camp sites. The Rolling Stones played a concert in Oslo, and I tought that some campers were playing loud music. It was a week before Iraq invaded Kuweit.

Time flies.

Now, Dana and Lina use their IPod or my IPad with Google Translate to understand some Norwegian sentences. I want them to be exposed to many cultures. Both are taking photos.

The stave church in Vik is wonderful, although it may be a little far from Aurland for a day outing.
 
Our rental car was broken into, and almost all of our luggage was stolen in Denmark. Life moves on, and clothes can be replaced. We had some carry on luggage in the hotel, and my cameras, of course. No cash was stolen. We are safe.

Fred assisted us greatly in Aarhus in guiding us to the police station and to the Hertz rental comany. We were given another car, and we drove off after lunch with Fred and his family.

That sucks, Raid. Sorry to hear, but as you say, you're all safe and clothes can be replaced. Glad to hear your cameras weren't stolen!

We had a great stay in Frankfurt (Oder) where I gave two talks at the university.
Now we are in Berlin for one day only, before returning to the USA.
 
I am very jealous of your cool weather in Norway. Your trip sounds amazing. Eager to see some of your photos soon.
It is VERY warm here in our home state of Florida.
 
Today I will be meeting again with my middle school friend after 35-40 years of no contacts. This will be interesting. He is a lawyer in Berlin. We went to middle school in Germany in the 1960's.

We had a family trip, and we got back last evening to Pensacola. I will soon start to go through the images that I caught on the M9 and the EP2.
 
take your time, there is more to life than post processing 🙂
