back alley

so, with the day off and money in my pocket i headed out this morning to a couple of photo shops.
first stop was mcbain camera, the pro store in town.
i was looking for a new bag or at least a strap. started talking to tony. he's a leica guy from way back. has 3 m bodies and 2 are just back from being cla'd.
he also has a contax 2 that was recently cla'd for a tidy sum and he says it's working just fine thank you very much. if i had the bucks i would have made an offer cause he sounded like he was thinking about selling it.
i'm guessing that if i were to ever wander into tony's basement i would find all manner of things photographic.
anyway, i asked about an eyecup for a nikon fm 10 (to fit the bessa). of course none in the house.
i looked at the straps but nothing caught my eye. i played with the domke gripper but it wasn't much better than what i'm using now. completely forgot to check on bags.
bought some film, a lens cleaning cloth and hit the streets.
i then drove to the other side of town to classic camera exchange and wally. wally is an old guy, has lots of stuff in his over crowded store and forgets things alot these days.
he had a nice voitlander vito b in the back case along with a leica m3. i dared not ask the price on the m3.
sitting there also was a cononet 19, a bunch of oly trips and a yashica, can't remember which model now.
today, here i was looking for a filter. wally has oddball sizes most of the time. i wanted a yellow 40.5 for the russian 50 and yes he had one, brand new hoya. unfortunately it cost more than the 50 and the fed 2 it was attached to. so i passed on the 40.5 yellow filter.
i also wanted to pick up a yellow in 43.5 for my oly 35rc. none to be had.
he had a uv and a red but no yellow. i considered the red but i would be buying it cause it was there. i prefer the yellow for everyday shooting.
i took one last look at the leica m3, considered the vito b for 40 bucks but eventually just said bye to wally and left.
i'm still waiting to hear if i got the used bessa r.
ever feel like your life was on hold...?
