so, with the day off and money in my pocket i headed out this morning to a couple of photo shops.
first stop was mcbain camera, the pro store in town.

i was looking for a new bag or at least a strap. started talking to tony. he's a leica guy from way back. has 3 m bodies and 2 are just back from being cla'd.
he also has a contax 2 that was recently cla'd for a tidy sum and he says it's working just fine thank you very much. if i had the bucks i would have made an offer cause he sounded like he was thinking about selling it.
i'm guessing that if i were to ever wander into tony's basement i would find all manner of things photographic.

anyway, i asked about an eyecup for a nikon fm 10 (to fit the bessa). of course none in the house.
i looked at the straps but nothing caught my eye. i played with the domke gripper but it wasn't much better than what i'm using now. completely forgot to check on bags.
bought some film, a lens cleaning cloth and hit the streets.

i then drove to the other side of town to classic camera exchange and wally. wally is an old guy, has lots of stuff in his over crowded store and forgets things alot these days.
he had a nice voitlander vito b in the back case along with a leica m3. i dared not ask the price on the m3.
sitting there also was a cononet 19, a bunch of oly trips and a yashica, can't remember which model now.

today, here i was looking for a filter. wally has oddball sizes most of the time. i wanted a yellow 40.5 for the russian 50 and yes he had one, brand new hoya. unfortunately it cost more than the 50 and the fed 2 it was attached to. so i passed on the 40.5 yellow filter.
i also wanted to pick up a yellow in 43.5 for my oly 35rc. none to be had.
he had a uv and a red but no yellow. i considered the red but i would be buying it cause it was there. i prefer the yellow for everyday shooting.
i took one last look at the leica m3, considered the vito b for 40 bucks but eventually just said bye to wally and left.

i'm still waiting to hear if i got the used bessa r.

ever feel like your life was on hold...?

Joe, for 3 or 4 times I was expecting to read 'I got the M3' or 'Went for the Contax II' etc...

But I see you resisted :) Btw we're mostly after the same small purchases now, I'm also looking for 40.5 and 43mm yellow filters, but still tempted and surfing *bay from time to time...

Anyway that's not nearly as fun as going somewhere and taking pictures :D

I'm currently using the eyecup from my F80 on a Bessa R; works just fine. The D100 one will also fit. And probably D70 as well.

I was thinking you went home with the Contax too.

I cut out early today and wandered into a little shop I know of that has piles of used stuff, nothing very organized. The only other time I was in there was right after I bought my Canonet. He had a QL 17, GIII with box, case and flash and all the papers in the case for $125 back then. I figured I had a little time so I swung out there today. He has a bunch of 1970s manual SLRs on hand and a full selection of lenses. I wandered into a smaller case stuffed with LF and MF stuff. I was drawn to a Minolta Autocord, but the focusing mechanism was not operating appropriately. He had a couple Press cameras though. Nothing in very good condition, actually that is an understatement. But I have been thinking alot about Speed Graphics since then.

On hold, yes definately. Where is that new Bessa? I want to see it before I decide what to do with the little fund I have built up.

I got a call from my camera repair guy this morning. His shop is 40 mi away, but he lives near here. He often will deliver repair items to me.

So he just showed up with a box of goodies, and I feel it's like getting new gear! There's a new-to-me 24mm Pentax lens that had a thick film of scum on an inner element, not fungus fortunately. And my old Pentax Auto 110 body with a repaired wind mechanism. And a Gossen Luna Pro F meter from eBay that required a cleaning and calibration.

And, more relevant to this forum, a repaired Kodak Junior 620 folding 6x9 camera. Probably made in Germany in the 1930's, it got a CLA. And there had been a spring missing it its film wind.

A 120 reel is too large to fit its film chamber. Need to find a roll of 620 film, and then it'll be great fun trying out this old Kodak (along with the refurb'd Gossen).

Thanks for the links, Gene! I had heard of both before but had never visited JandC so was surprised to see they had factory 620 film, and much less expensive than the re-rolled 620 from FilmForClassics. But their products are different; both are valuable resources that I've now bookmarked!
