`When the first M9s arrived in London Amateur Photographer reported a great demand from
P.J.s looking to reduce the weight burden experienced with pro DSLRs. Earlier this week on
a British TV news report I noticed a P.J. using an M camera in the entrance hall to a meeting.
But then, one swallow etc.

The G10 has been a lifesaver for me too.

A large amount would depend on your publication and the urgency of the story. I'm not a professional photojournalist, just aspiring to be and have recently started a news blog for my city and am shooting local events. I've shown my shots to my college's newspaper and the possibility of being brought on as a staff photographer is possible. The photo editor took a look at my whole portfolio and particularly expressed interest in some of the black and white fiber prints that were mixed in with the digital work.
They're a twice-monthly publication, and they said that shooting film was no problem as long as it was ready with sufficient time before printing, say having it shot, then develop and scan within 24-48 hours. Not possible with slide film having to be sent out, but perfectly doable if you have access to a darkroom and a scanner. A monthly magazine would be much the same, in my opinion, as long as all the shots are on the same quality level as what the digital shooters are producing.

Okay, if I may pose the question differently, what are the strengths and weaknesses of a M8/M9 against a digital SLR? Are there specific areas of photojournalism where the M8/M9 make more sense?

M8/M9 - Easy to carry, can use the "great" Leica lenses. Uh....easy to carry. And...comes in titanium. etc...
