That's actually quite amazing - that forum (in my experience) is the largest gathering of immature humans that I've ever seen!
Take a look around and you will see posts from a lot of people that obviously have nothing better to do than try and make those that may know less than them feel stupid. I've been quite amazed by some of the posts on there - I though for sure that there is some kind of maturity requirement to post on a forum. If you don't believe me just do a serch for topics on film photography...
We should consider ourselves lucky to have a (mostly) civil online community...

That civility won't last long. It seems that nearly all threads there degenerate into infantile name-calling after about a dozen posts.

It is not so bad as you think. I figured that photo forums are by far most civilized online I have seen. If you think that dp is bad you should try forums that are more populated by younger people.
I just went into longboarding and figured out that the longboardforum gets just irrelevant after the 3 post.

dpreview gives photography a bad name, that place is horrible, full of hacks who could not shoot their way out of a paper bag with a rocket launcher.

My trick is to never read the follow-up replies to my postings, unless these latter have included a question on my part. A while ago, I posted a simple, 'heads-up' about a new piece of kit, and received the most arrogant and cowardly sleight for my efforts, that it upset me for days. The galling thing is that I know the protagonist would never have the guts to speak in such a way, face-to-face. I must say that it did cheer me to check the person's website, which was as vain and insipid as he'd seemed to be, and find that he was, indeed, just another hack with an ego of a size that exceeded his vision.
Rangefinder.com forums seem 'safer' and more humane. I still regret the passing of the old forums at rob galbraith's site, though. The medium format forum, in particular, was witty and urbane, and completely graced by the presence of James Russell and Mark Tucker, who were funny, generous, and always informative beyond my expectation.
Thanks for the link to the kodachrome project, by the way. I miss that stuff.
