Hi all,
I just got my Mamiya 7 alignment adjusted because it was out of alignment for infinity.
I've had problems with this camera from the beginning :bang: - in terms of the fact that images I produced were all slightly out of focus. Originally I thought it was my scans, now I realize that it was probably just the alignment.
I've just checked and my eyes cannot see any 'misalignment' on infinity so if there is any its not noticeable to me. My plan is to run a test roll at multiple apertures for distance and at the minimum focus distance of 1metre, develop them myself and then send them to the lab for scanning to minimize any possible errors in my process. I'll post the results here.
So is it possible that the lens is perfectly in alignment at infinity but somehow out of alignment at 1metre?
Is it possible that even though my viewfinder indicates that the focus is spot on, that somehow the lens is out of alignment? If so, how do I test for that?
Does anyone have any advice beyond what I've outlined?

Do you have access to a ground glass? That should allow you to check for actual focus at the film and with rangefinder alignment.

Thanks for the response. No I don't. I'm not really sure what that is. Is it a device that a camera repair shop would normally have?

My understanding is that the rangefinder adjustment on the Mamiya7(&6) is pretty simple: if it's right at infinity it's basically right through the range. This is different to the Leica where there are two adjustments for distance and if the rangefinder is seriously out both need to be got right. (I am ignoring the additional possibility of the rangefinder image being displaced vertically even when it indicates proper focus, but that is different: correct focus is still indicated.)
Can you try another lens, in case that your lens has been somehow mucked up?
Experimenting at small apertures is likely to give results that are not conclusive because of better depth of field.
The ground glass can be placed at the film plane with the back open and with a magnifier the focus at the image at the film plane can be checked (I've never tried it).
