Rangefinder joy...

Canon and NIkon have given the "loud pipes save lives" argument regarding the loud shutters in their pro SLPs (film and digital): pros need to be sure they got the shot, and being able to hear the shutter fire, even over the din of crowds, etc. is essential. At least that's the story, and they're sticking to it. As far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as a shutter that's "too" quiet.

And Ducatis sound as cool as Harleys, but won't kill your hearing after three years of riding. 😀

This is true, but it is a bit embarrasing when you watch the video of a family or freinds wedding and you can hear my EOS20d shutter going like the proverbial outhouse door in a hurricane!!

In Japan their purposefully pushing for all image taking devices (mobiles, err... cameras) to make a "clearly audible sound" when they take an image.

One of the reasons cited is perverts taking photos of sleeping girls on trains.

That said, having a camera at all outside of your home looks likely to become a very hazardous activity in the UK with the laws being proposed...

I've gotten into rangefinders recently, it started with someone going on about their capitalist bludgeoning device of a Zorki 4K, but I find now that I'll take out my GTN because of the quiet shutter and because I don't have to worry about which lenses to take out - because I can't 🙂
