Finally got a chance to purchase a Precision Screwdriver set, aka Jeweler SS, and totally fixed the rangefinder's VERTICAL & HORIZONTAL patch alignment. so proud of myself.

this is the set I purchased today

Literally only used two heads:

the #00 size Phillips head (for hot-shoe removal)

and the 3/64" Slotted (also knowns as flat head) for the initial alignment. oh and to remove the black spring-steel clip

followed these instructions if anyone else wants too attempt.

Alignment

saved me some mulah!
now gotta go exchange the 18p set for a 5p

heard this wasn't uncommon for the R-D1

& if anyone has any suggestions for a solid made in USA set please let me know.
I've had china steel bend on me before. no offense

this set was a little flimsy, wouldn't recommend it. It's "General" Brand

You can purchase German or Swiss Hardened steel micro tip screwdrivers from Micro-tools. You do pay the price though.

Whichever brand you purchase, I find that they need to be sharpened on an oilstone. If you use the screwdrivers as they come from the factory, most of them are too wide for the fine slots in camera screws. Using the screwdrivers "as-is" usually causes damage as the head doesn't fit the slot properly, and will expand or deform the slot, or else slip off and damage the camera finish around the screw.
