Rangefinder Photography Book 2.. on sale now

I got mine today. There is definitely a tint to the photos, but I can live with it. The quality of the subject matter and photos is excellent and diverse. Thanks to all who had a part in producing the book.

I'm with Daniel... I have not ordered Book 2 yet, in hopes that the tint problem will be addressed. And I ordered Book 1 in mid-November... It has a faint pinkish tint to most B&W images, often with banding. Hadn't really noticed it until this purple issue with Book 2 surfaced.

Hi all - I bought book 1 recently. Great book, fantastic pictures and great idea for a project to reflect the talent here. The print quality is poor - strong magenta cast on almost everything, flat colour, bronzing in shadow areas. I have had one-offs done through Apple and they are much better - clean, lively colour, good black and white. I don't know but I believe the process must be simiar to Lulu's so it must be possible to do it well. Have Lulu responded to any complaints?

Not to mine. Not in any meaningful way, that is. I'm sending it back and as soon as I get a delivery receipt, I am doing a chargeback on my credit card.

Just got the book

Just got the book

I just got my copy of Rangefinder Photography A Gathering in Monday's(17 April) mail. I was actually going to wait and see how the reported issues were resolved but my mom pre-empted me and bought one(thanks, Mom!). This copy looks very good to me. No color casts that I notice, my two photos are very close to the prints I used to do my digital submission from(and that difference is mostly due to my poor color management skills and piece o' crap monitor). The other photos that i've seen in the galleries here also look good. The photos I've not seen before the book, I have no way of knowing about but I am well pleased with how the book came out.

To be honest, I may be too easy to please about this; I am amazed at the excellence I'm surrounded by in the book and frankly thrilled about being "in print"!

Mom ordered the book on 4 April and it shipped on 10 April. She did the free shipping option which meant that the book took seven days to get from Rochester, NY to me in Cortland, NY(about 3hours driving time) because it went from Rochester to Pittsburgh, PA--defineitely the long way home.
Dunno if this means that Lulu has been paying better attention to QC but I sure hope so.

I got my copy of "Rangefinder Photography, A Gathering" and would like to thank everyone who worked on this! Especially RayPA who helped me get my text in correctly. Rover and everyone else, the poem by Joe, Jim William's preface, it's all appreciated! You should all get a credit line in the front matter of the book! There are many great photos here. Just a few I can mention -- Summer Cornfield by John E. Robertson, Reflection by German Barreto, Cotton Candy by Jan Normandale, Anxiety Within by Manolo Gozales, Toronto Union Station by Gene Wilburn. We all have our favorites... thanks for making this happen!

Just got my Book II today, BW images have a slight color cast still, some worst than others but overall not bad enough to put it off any longer, so just buy it!

I got mine last week. The tint does bother me quite a bit considering the amount paid. Oh well, not like it's going to get any better. It's sitting happy on my shelf right next to Book 1.

I bought the book as well. Most colour photos are fine, as are most sepia toned photos. The "pure" B&W photos, however, mostly suffer from a red/magenta(?) cast. In some the cast isn't evenly spread over the entire page but comes in streaks and flows, as if in certain areas the half tone gets too difficult to print(?). I talked to a friend of mine who's in the printing business and he tells me that B&W is never easy to get right and that the amount of effort to get it right is mostly reflected in the final piece price. I guess Lulu does what it can without making us break our bank.

One remark about the book. I found the size of the book too large. The size of book 1 was just right to keep me interested in all the photos. Book 2 was too much of a good thing. In hindsight I would have liked 2 books instead of one large book.

Anyone else get an email offer from Lulu today for 15% off this book?
I hadn't thought about the book in several years...it was a bit startling to see the title in my in box.
