Rangefinders and the family snapshot

I've used SLR's and RF's for most of my life. I find the RF's better for "people photography", the "Environmental Portrait" as it is often labeled. The RF is easier to use in existing light situations.

And the shot in the Avatar is with a Canon 7 with 50/1.4. Prefocussed during a prior cycle. Focus. set camera down. Push Swing. Raise Camera. Shoot. It is at F4, I waited for the tire to rotate into focus, ie fired when the split image converged. Low Latency.

It got easier when Nikki could pump the swing herself...

I always liked the Rollei 35 like you have for shots of little tykes running around. All the camera settings are easy to adjust when you shoot from the hip and don't look through the viewfinder. I'd set the scale focus to 5 feet and wait until the child ran into the focal zone. The film advance lever on the left side is easy to work with your left hand in a downward position.
