Rather stupid GIII operation question, maybe ...

In my neverending story of resurrecting a QL17 GIII, I now have the thing all put together except for the light seals, and I've been playing with some "air shots" to get a feel for the operation.

Autoexposure mode seems to work fine. The f-stop it says does seem to be sane for the film speed and shutter speed.

However, I kinda want to use this one in more of a manual metered mode, but there's no obvious needle-match function. When I turn it off of auto, the needle seems to be remaining up at the top end of the scale.

Is it possible to use the QL17 GIII in a mode similar to the needle-match mode of other cameras?

You can use it in manual mode, but without the meter. The meter turns off when you take it out of "A", a good way to save the battery. Very few of the compact 1970s era RF cameras have metered manual modes.

I think you could read an AutoExposure reading and interpolate it.
Example 1/500 F2.8, you can set it manually 1/250 F5.6...
You can even compensate or force the exposure.
Anyhow isn´t an ellegant or fast method.

Thanks for the quick replies. Not really what I wanted to hear, but ... 🙁

I can now see that since the sensor does not sense thru the aperture it might be difficult to do this.

I guess I'll have to live with measuring in auto mode and switching to manual if I want to do it that way.

The Minolta Hi-Matic 9 and Konica S2 have Metered Manual mode. They are full-size cameras, and not expensive.
