I think most Canon P&S have a firmware hack which will enable RAW shooting (as well as histograms and snakey games), if you want to go that road:

The two smallest natively RAW capable cameras I can think of (not counting CHDK or similar) are the Sony RX100 and Canon S90/S95/S100/S110 series. The Canons are extremely nice and well made, compact and competent. The Sony is a lot more expensive but it's all that and a bag of crisps.

Thank you for all suggestions, I think the smallest are the Canons. I will investigate Sigma DP series too.

My Pentax Q is pretty small, but it has interchangeable lenses so I am not sure it counts. It does RAW.

Canon S100 is a brilliant little pocket cam. It's got raw, a very wide lens and produces great quality images.

The Sigma DP cameras are truly incredible, but the OP asked for a pocketable compact cameras and, though I know we all have different standards, I really do think they are small enough to be pocket cameras.

That said, the S100/S110 and the RX100 are both truly pocket-sized.

Here's the DP1M and the Canon S100. The DP1M really is pretty large. The S100 with lens protrusion when the lens is folded is thinner than the Dp1's body, and the lens on the DP1 doesn't collapse.
