rd-1 or rd-1s?

hello together!

i have to choose between an rd-1 or rd-1s....both new, but the rd-1 will cost 450,--$ more than the 1s...ist there any really technical difference between those two cameras? i know that the 1s is the updated rd-1, but what cam is the save one🙄?

edit: i know that someone had the same question a few month ago..but is the RF adjustment really easier to adjust on the R-D1 - who tried it out?

Get whichever is cheaper. the R-D1 can be upgraded for free. Check some of the R-d1 forums for more info.

the R-D1s is basically a software upgrade over the R-D1 IIRC -- and a free one at that

I had no problem doing a horizontal adjustment on my RD1s. In fact, after my latest tweaking I can precisely focus a Noctilux at all distances wide open.

The vertical adjustment is still not perfect however - and I had to use brute force to get it close enough to be almost imperceptible. I'm not sure why this is, but given the choice, I may have gone with the RD1 because apparently the vertical adjustment is easier.

For those who have a horizontal (focus) issue on the Epson - I honestly urge you to learn how to adjust this yourselves rather than sending the camera back to Epson. The process was unbelievably easy (and I'm sure I'll have to repeat it in the future).

Sorry to repeat it ad nauseam but the R-D1 and R-D1s RFs are different. Vertical misalignments are much easier to adjust with the R-D1.

My frustration toward R-D1s (RF misalignment and rejection of 40mm f/2) has reached a point that cancels the joy it brings. Get a M8 or R-D1.

thank you all very much for your fast answers...i think it will be the better way for me to take the rd-1, despite the higher price - because i don`t like to have any problems with the cam.

I wonder if it's possible to have the RF mechanism on the RD1s 'downgraded' - I would love to get total control over the fine-tuning, and the vertical alignment is definitely difficult (though I've found that, with some brute force, it's not totally impossible).
