RD-1 RF adjustment

Are there some detailed instructions (step by step if possible) on how to remove the top-plate in the RD-1 and how to adjust the RF?

I found this page:

But it shows the RD-1 alredy open, also from that page is less than obvious which screw does what (an I don't understand the image clarity screw at all, what exactly is it supposed to do?)

I wonder if that controls/matches the magnification of the "patch" image to the viewfinder image.

You don't have to remove the top-plate for small adjustments, just the hotshoe. This can be done with a small screwdriver. I think Ed Schwarzreich has posted instructions in the RD-1 forum.

Shouldn't the magnification be the same as the viewfinder (1:1)?

You would think. My only reference is a similar mention of an adjustment on the HEXAR RF -- horizontal, vertical, and one to either match the mags, or maybe to match the plane of focus for both "images".

The small screw by the condensor lens is to adjust the focus plane of the secondary image to the same virtual distance as the primary viewfinder image.

....referring to a third adjustment on the HEXAR RF. Pulled from a thread on p-net. Might be a similar adjustment, especially since it refers to making it "clearer".

Well it looks scary, but it might not be as difficult as it looks.
Now if just someone had some instructions...

Don Goldberg (DAG) took the photos that are in the link posted. Taking off the top cover would have been beyond my capabilities, due to PC boards and wires needing to be detached, etc.

Rangefinder adjustment

A few weeks ago, Don gave me a description of the different types of adjustments. They where
1) Infinity
2) Near focus
3) A "lever arm" ratio adjustment that controls the rate of change
between 1) and 2)
4) Focus of the rangefinder patch

I didn't ask him actually HOW to make these adjustments, but I would quess its not for the faint of heart. I have an extra body that I would be willing to try on, however. I do a lot of precision gun work and have a complete set of tools.
If anyone gets the information, I sure their are a lot of us that would love to see it posted.
I hope that not too many of us drive Don crazy. Don, if your reading this, I completely understand that this voids the warrenty, doing at your own risk, etc.
