RD-1 Still Going Strong?

Had the R-D1s for about a year and sold it after acquiring the M8.2. Really liked the camera apart from:
- much light fall off and bad magenta in the corners when using CV 15mm, which could hardly be corrected decently;
- comparing to my M-Leica's I found its rangefinder base to short;
- 1,5 cropfactor.

Had mine for just under a year, got it for a street shooting class... Made some of my favorite images. First one was from KEH, and the screen was DOA, second one worked perfect, and has since. I have not experenced the RF allignment issues, but this is more a less a thrid camera for me.

I've bought my r-d1 from Ebay in feb. 2008. It's a third hand, with a paint loss on the bottom.

I don't use it a lot, around 1500 frames, only in low light places (indoor, live music, etc.)

I've bought a leather chinese half case to protect it and I've upgraded the firmware.

I cleaned the sensor twice, now need an other cleaning.

It's a great camera, very strong, no problems. I love it and certainly keep it for ever.

Now, I'm waiting for :
- the r-d2 with a new sensor and silent shutter (a full frame alternative to the M9?)
- the future M43 rangefinder camera (?)

I've had two R-D1 bodies since early 2005. One died early with the shutter problem, but has been fine since Steve fixed it. The other one just recently had an LCD failure (camera working otherwise) and Steve has it right now. Other than that no problems, except I adjust the rangefinder myself occasionally.

Since getting an M9 I rarely use them though, even as a backup...

have had my 2 for maybe a year, no complaints and no problems.
Always curious to ask this question, Joe. Is the second body a backup or do you actually take both into the field? If you do take them both what lens goes with them? And do they both perform the same?
Ciao

i always like a second body, the same body as the first.
it is both backup and user, depending on the moment.
i prefer not to change lenses when shooting, if possible, and so a second body helps that along. i normally have the 15 on one body and then something longer on the second, like a 40 or the 50. if using one body (most of the time) i will likely have the 15 on it, and something like the 35/40/50 in the bag as well.
today, i have one body with the cv 28 on it.

A very attractive kit

I bought a second R-D1 about a year ago as a backup. I've only use both at the same time once: I was shooting a reception, and had one with aN M-Rokkor 28/2.8 on a wrist strap for most usage, with the other on a cross-body strap with a CV 50/1.5 for the occasional tighter shot. (I just let the primary dangle while using the secondary.) Other than that once, I've never needed a second body or a backup - so I'm going to sell one.
