Is it just me or.... It seems like every time or at least every other time I take shots
with the RD-1, I find more and more points to admire. Today I went to see a display of "Yabusame", A old Japanese Art/Sport where you ride a horse at gallop and shoot with Bow and arrows at a target. I have heard it being described as the Japanese equivalent of Jousting.
Anyway I think the attached shows how good the RD-1 is at capturing a moment.
It was also the fist time for me to try my new Lens acquisition

The shot was taken with the Canon 50mm f1.2 at f8 and 2000/s.
The picture is ruined by the TW*T with his mobile phone :bang: . They just don't get it!
I bet he ended up with a blur of nothing.
I know that people would say that the same would be achieved better with a DSLR
but to me, this shows how the whole rangefinder method of shooting with both eyes open and seeing the action entering the frame is special.
Anyway not too impressed that I wasn't closer but quite happy with the results.

Hey that first shot is great !!! And I seriously think the phonecam adds to the photo, sort of a mix of tradition and ultramodernism, sure it gives a very different look !

I concur. That first shot is terrific, and I would not have noticed the phonecam if you hadn't mentioned it.

Here is how that file was created:
Started with a transparency that I got from NASA in about 1975. I made a digital duplicate using an Imacon Back on a Hasselblad with Bellows and 135mm macro lens. I then sampled the black sky of space and created a new photoshop file in which the black was the entire background, copied the shot of the earth taken from Space into the lower left corner of the image, then copied another shot (obtained the same way as the first) of the moon taken from the spacecraft and put it in the upper right, then used the circle tool thingy to take a "bite" out of the moon to simulate an eclipse caused by the earth. Then I created a new layer in which I pasted a cut out of the dog, used the magic wand thingy to highlight the area around the dog, filled it with some space black and then flattened the layers. Finally, I used the paint blush tool to create some stars and planets. Obviously this is neither cinema verite, nor reportage, nor art, but my daughter loves this shot.

Phil, Yes all three shots were taken with the Canon 50mm. Nice lens I believe it is in Seans Lens tests.

You have a good eye. I agree with other posts that the cell phone camera doesn't detract from the overall image. I see you have a soft shutter release on your R-D1, obviously you find it usefull even with an f1.2 lens.

Phil, This Canon was a rather neglected one I happened to see in at a pawn shop. it was coverd in dust and there was some mold/fungus, so I managed to get it for a steal, I wasn't
sure that it would be useable, but after 15 days of waiting, having sent it out for a CLA,
It returned very very clean, clear and useable. (Total outlay about 135pounds)
Personaly now that I have used her I would definately repurchase at 200, So I guess
if the one you have seen is in a good condition......I have posted in your thread titled
RD-1 Hoods, about the hood I have found for this. The Original hood over here is fetching
more than I paid for the Lens!
I have read some reviews that are not so kind towards this lens per contrast etc, but I
find that it seems to go well with the RD-1. Haven't tried her on film.

1. I think the cell-phone camera is fine in the picture. The bystanders making pictures are themselves subjects of the picture.
