There is a sale of the RD-1s on Ebay for 2499.01. Does anyone here have experience with 'sell2ppl' in Japan. They have a 99.7% positive rating but I don't really trust these ratings. I am fired up about getting one but don't want to get burned by some shady outfit out of country(US). Please advise.

Be careful! Matsuiya Store was selling them for about the same price a few weeks ago. You might want to check out Robert White. He is selling the RD1 for about $2250. If you go for the RD1s out of Japan I'm pretty sure you will have to send the camera back to Japan for Warranty service. At least that's what Toshi at Matsuiya store told me. I imagine it's the same for Sell2ppl. The same holds for Robert White's cameras. They are serviced through Epson UK.

That's where I bought mine. A very good experience -- smooth transaction, good responsiveness, quick shipping and the camera arrived in good shape. All as advertised. I think you can go ahead with no worries.

Best,
Alan

Re: service -- yes, that could be an issue and it's something to keep in mind. Just to qualify my comment above -- I'm not sure that any service is available through sell2ppl. Camera would likely have to go to Epson Japan for service. I was willing to take the risk since there doesn't seem to be any US availability for the R-D1S -- I don't have a Robert White-equivalent option. But if I did I might have bought closer to home.

Best,
Alan

I realize the service issue could be a worry. But if I want an RD-1s then what is the choice? Epson isn't interested in US sales at this time apparently. in spite of Sean Reid's glowing recommendations here. If there is no problems with sell2ppl then I'll take the chance with the hope that should there be a quality issue that I'll have to send back to Japan. Wish me luck! And thanks for the input. RFF is the best Jorge!

I hope that by "glowing recommendations" you're also including the discussion of various R-D1 problems that is part of my long-term review. Have you read it?

Cheers,

Sean
